Rotterdam, Netherlands – Rotterdam police have detained a suspect believed to be responsible for the fatal shooting spree that left three men dead in the IJsselmonde district over the past two weeks.

The suspect, a 24-year-old man with no fixed address, was apprehended on the balcony of a home on the Emelissedijk around 23:15 last night. A firearm was also recovered from the scene, though police have not yet confirmed if it’s the weapon used in the shootings. The man is being held in full isolation, allowing contact only with his lawyer, as investigations continue.

The shootings, which occurred on December 21, 28, and January 2, killed one man each time. The victims were aged 63, 58, and 81. The third victim succumbed to his injuries later on January 2. The motive behind the shootings remains unclear.

This morning, a joint press conference will be held by Rotterdam’s Burgemeester (Mayor), Police, and Public Prosecutor to provide more details on the situation and the ongoing investigation.

The fatal incident is part of a series of shootings that have claimed the lives of three men within the district over the last two weeks. On December 21, a 63-year-old man was killed on the Reyerdijk, followed by the shooting of a 58-year-old man on the Roelantpad on December 28.

Police Advisory Lifted

Rotterdam, Netherlands – Following the arrest of the suspect, the Rotterdam police advisory urging residents in the IJsselmonde district to be extra cautious and avoid going out alone has been lifted.
