Iconic Cliff Collapse Blocks Access to Pandawa Beach Road

by Chief Editor January 6, 2025

Headline: Flash Flood in Badung: Landslide at Pandawa Beach; Access Road to Popular Tourist Spot Blocked

Summary: Heavy rainfall in Badung’s Kuta Selatan on Tuesday, January 6, 2025, triggered a landslide at the Tanah Barak-Pantai Pandawa tourist area, closing the iconic scenic road linking the two attractions. Authorities are working to clear the debris, with an estimated completion time of up to 24 hours.

Article:

In a sudden turn of events, a landslide caused by heavy rain has disrupted access to a popular tourist attraction in Badung, Bali. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, January 6, 2025, along the road connecting Tanah Barak and Pantai Pandawa in the Kuta Selatan district.

According to I Wayan Duartha, Chairman of the Pantai Pandawa Tourism Development and Management Board, crews are currently deploying heavy machinery to clear the blocked road. They anticipate that the operation may take up to another day to complete.

Duartha confirmed that the landslide happened sometime during the night or early morning, and was only noticed by gatekeepers when they opened the road at dawn. The landslide was attributed to both the intense rainfall and the layered structure of the cliff, which caused it to collapse suddenly, fortunately without any reported casualties.

The material that slid onto the road was part of the outer layer of the multi-layered cliff in the area. Duartha explained that the cliff consists of several layers, with the recent landslide comprising a small portion of the remaining outer layer of the coral soil, which had been left after previous cliff carving activities.

To ensure the safety of the area, management plans to regularly monitor the cliff’s condition and consult with geological experts from Udayana University to conduct a thorough study. In the meantime, they are diligently working to clear the debris and reopen the road as soon as possible.

Duartha emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of the area, stating, "We need to prioritize safety because this access point is already an established tourist attraction, not just a regular road."

Article:

In a significant milestone for Indonesia’s fight against malnutrition, the long-awaited ‘Makan Bergizi Gratis’ (MBG) program has officially begun its nationwide rollout. This flagship initiative, a collaborative effort between President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, launched on Monday, January 6, in 190 locations across 26 provinces.

"This is a historic moment for Indonesia," said Hasan Nasbi, Head of Presidential Communications. "For the first time, we’re implementing a national-scale malnutrition prevention program targeting infants, schoolchildren, expecting mothers, and new mothers."

The program, part of the Prabowo-Gibran administration’s ‘Program Hasil Terbaik Cepat’ (PHTC), will operate through 190 ‘Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi’ (SPPG) or MBG kitchens. These kitchens will provide nutritious meals to vulnerable populations, aiming to reach 3 million beneficiaries by March 2025, with projections rising to 15 million by the end of the year.

The MBG initiative extends across all major Indonesian islands, with SPPGs in Aceh, Bali, Sumatera, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, Nusa Tenggara, and Papua. In addition to fulfilling nutritional needs, the program is estimated to involve over 140 Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) in its supply chain, with thousands more queuing for evaluation.

With a Rp71 trillion budget, the MBG program marks an ambitious start to the Prabowo-Gibran administration’s commitment to eliminating malnutrition in Indonesia.

Bali Shock: Chinese Tourist Sexually Assaulted and Robbed by Ojek Driver on New Year’s Day

Badung, Bali – A disturbing incident occurred on the eve of the new year when a Chinese tourist, JT, was sexually assaulted and robbed by an ojek driver in Pecatu, Badung, Bali. The incident took place on New Year’s Day, Wednesday, January 1, 2025, along Jalan Batu Kandik.

JT, a female tourist, was looking for an ojek at a nearby base station, not far from Pantai Nyang Nyang. She intended to return to her villa on Jalan Labuansait. After struggling to find transportation, she spotted a driver who had just dropped off two passengers. Seizing the opportunity, she approached him. However, instead of taking her to her destination, the drivertook her to a secluded area on Jalan Batu Kandik.

At that location, the driver sexually assaulted JT. After the assault, he demanded money from her, but JT refused, stating she had no cash. The driver then noticed JT wearing a diamond ring and proceeded to rob her, fleeing the scene immediately afterwards.

The diamond ring, worth approximately IDR 81 million ($5.9 million USD), was JT’s prized possession. "The ring was quite expensive," her lawyer, Joseph Nahak, confirmed in an interview with detikBali on Sunday, January 5, 2025.

Polisi have since obtained CCTV footage of the incident and are in the process of identifying the assailant. The suspect is described as a man of average build, brown skin tone, about 168 cm tall, wearing a green jacket and helmet.

JT’s lawyer, Joseph Nahak, expressed that the victims’ loss extends beyond the financial; the traumatic event has caused her significant distress. "The diamond ring is a significant loss, but more importantly, our client is now suffering from the trauma of this ordeal," Joseph said.

The Badung Police are actively investigating the case, and further updates are expected to follow as more details emerge.

Bali Ojek Driver Not Only Sexually Assaults, But Also Robs Chinese Tourist of Diamond Ring

Badung, Indonesia – In a brazen and horrifying incident, a bicycle taxi driver (ojek) in Bali not only sexually assaulted a Chinese tourist but also robbed the victim of a diamond ring.

The despicable act occurred on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at around 01:00 WITA (Western Indonesia Time) on Jalan Batu Kandik, Pecatu, Badung, Bali.

The victim, identified by the initials JT, was initially approached by the ojek driver after she and her group of friends had watched a fireworks display at Nyang Nyang Beach. JT and two of her friends were dropped off by their ride, leaving them to find another ojek to get back to their villa on Jalan Labuansait, Pecatu, Badung.

JT then approached an ojek driver who had just dropped off a passenger near the beach. Feeling assured by his presence, she hired him to take her and her two friends back to their accommodation. Little did she know, this decision would change her life forever.

The ojek driver wasn’t taking JT to safety, but to a secluded spot on Jalan Batu Kandik where he proceeded to sexual assault her. In an appalling twist, he then turned his attention to her valuables, stealing her diamond ring.

"After assaulting her, the driver searched her bag and took her diamond ring," reported JT’s friend, KA, on Friday, January 3, 2025.

Devastated and traumatized, JT managed to flee to a nearby resident’s house for help. She later filed a police report with the Bali Police, supported by her friend KA.

  • 10:30 PM: The ojek driver takes a detour to Jalan Batu Kandik, where he sexually assaults JT and robs her of her diamond ring.
  • 11:00 PM: JT manages to escape and seeks help from a nearby resident.

Chinese tourist reports sexual assault and robbery after midnight ride from New Year’s celebrations in Pecatu

Article:

In a disturbing incident that marred the New Year’s celebrations in Bali, a Chinese woman has alleged that she was raped by a motorcycle driver in the early hours of January 1, 2025. The victim, a tourist in Bali, reported the incident to the local police, which has confirmed receiving the complaint.

The alleged assault occurred in the Pecatu area of South Kuta, Badung Regency, Bali, after the victim and her group of six friends had attended a New Year’s Eve event at Pantai Nyang-Nyang. Around 1:20 AM WITA, the group hired motorcycle taxis to return to their villa in Labuan Sait, Pecatu. However, the victim’s driver took a different route, leading her to a secluded area where the alleged assault and robbery took place.

Bali Provincial Police Public Relations Head, Kombes Pol Jansen Avitus Panjaitan, confirmed that the victim had filed a report with the police on January 2, 2025. However, he did not provide further details about the timeline of events.

According to information gathered from the scene, the victim’s driver ignored her requests to turn back, and she was unable to contact her friends due to poor signal reception. The victim alleges that she was then raped and robbed, with the suspect taking her diamond ring before fleeing the scene.

The victim and her group had been celebrating the New Year at Pantai Nyang-Nyang, a popular spot for local and international tourists. The incident serves as a reminder for travelers to take necessary precautions when using transportation services, especially during late-night hours.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward. The victim is receiving support from the local authorities and her embassy.

This is a developing story. More details will be provided as they become available.

Headline: Tragic Loss: Korean National Found Dead After Mount Agung Ascent in Bali

Subhead: Search and rescue teams recover body of 31-year-old man from South Korea, who was reported missing during mountain climb.

A grim discovery was made on Friday, February 3, when the body of a missing South Korean national was found near Gunung Agung in Karangasem, Bali. Kyung Dam Oh, a 31-year-old man, was reported missing after attempting to climb the iconic and holy mountain.

Nyoman Sidakarya, the head of Denpasar Search and Rescue Office, confirmed that Oh’s body was found at an altitude of 2,200 meters above sea level, around 10:00 AM WITA. The victim was discovered in a prone position, approximately 100 meters from the Pasar Agung trail.

sidakarya stated that Oh had sustained injuries to his head, supposedly from impact with rocks. They suspect the cause of death to be a fall.

I Gusti Ngurah Eka Wiadnya, the coordinator of Karangasem Search and Rescue, echoed this sentiment, stating that the fall was the likely cause of Oh’s death. Oh’s body has been evacuated to the Karangasem District General Hospital for further examination.

The South Korean national had begun his climb on Wednesday, January 1, with the last known contact with Oh received on Thursday, January 2. The Indonesian Consulate in South Korea was subsequently notified and immediately alerted search and rescue teams.

"New Jakarta Metro Begins Operations: Disappointment for Proposed Candidates Niluh Djelantik and Robi Navicula."

by Chief Editor January 2, 2025
written by Chief Editor

Title: Bali‘s Trans Metro Dewata Buses Cease Operations, Leaving Residents Disappointed

The island of Bali bids farewell to its public bus service, Trans Metro Dewata (TMD), as of January 1, 2025. The decision, announced via Instagram by @transmetrodewata on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, has left residents, including prominent figures like Robi Navicula and Niluh Djelantik, disheartened.

Why the Shutdown?

The cessation of TMD’s operations is attributed to the lack of subsidy from the State Budget (APBN) for 2025. Since its inception in 2020, TMD has been sustained by APBN subsidies. While the Bali Provincial Government (Pemprov) has assured that operational funds are included in the 2025 Provincial Budget (APBD), it’s only enough to cover one corridor. Currently, TMD serves six corridors in Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, and Tabanan, under the Sarbagita scheme.

Public Outcry

Gede Robi, vocalist of the band Navicula, expressed his disappointment, stating, "A smart city should have accessible public transportation, subsidized by the government. If not, it’s more like a ‘stupid city’!" Niluh Djelantib, Bali’s DPD (Regional Representative Council) member, also vented her frustration on Instagram, @niluhdjelantik, urging authorities not to ignore public concerns.

Surya, a 54-year-old resident of Kelurahan Sading, Mengwi, Badung, echoed these sentiments. He relied heavily on TMD for his daily commute due to its affordability. Now, he’s left struggling with the high costs of alternative transportation.

Caught by Surprise

Many commuters were caught off guard by the sudden halt in operations. At Denpasar’s Terminal Ubung, dozens of TMD buses lined up, waiting for passengers who were unaware of the shutdown. Adi Santika Jaya, a 30-year-old father, had planned a family trip to Monkey Forest using TMD but had to change his plans. He lamented the lack of affordable public transport alternatives.

Looking Ahead

Residents like Surya eagerly await the government’s response, hoping for a swift replacement or reopening of the TMD service. Bali’s transportation landscape will undoubtedly face significant changes in the wake of this development.

Bus Driver’s Lucky Journey: Trans Metro Dewata’s Journey and Operational Halt

by Chief Editor January 2, 2025
written by Chief Editor

Trans Metro Dewata: A Clouded Future for Indonesia‘s First Bus Rapid Transit

Indonesia’s first foray into bus rapid transit (BRT), Trans Metro Dewata, has found itself in a state of uncertainty. After years of operation, the system that was once hailed as a sustainable transport solution has slid into disrepair, culminating in its recent halt in operations.

A Pause in Service

Video footage capturing the last moments of Trans Metro Dewata’s operation on August 31, 2021, has surfaced, marking the end of an era. The system, which stretched across 13 kilometers in Bali’s capital, Denpasar, came to a halt due to multiple factors, including accumulated maintenance costs and decreasing ridership.

The Larger Picture

Trans Metro Dewata’s predicament is not an isolated incident. According to a recent report by Kompas.com, at least six public transport systems across Indonesia are expected to cease operating by 2025, due to various challenges such as maintenance issues, insufficient funding, and declining passenger numbers.

Awaiting Renewal

The stoppage of Trans Metro Dewata service has left hundreds of bus drivers in limbo. Some of these drivers, who have been with the system since its inception in 2012, are mere days away from losing their jobs, as reported by ANTARA Bali.

An Uphill Battle

Trans Metro Dewata’s deterioration is a stark reminder of the uphill battle public transport systems face in Indonesia. Despite initial promising signs, the system failed to overcome numerous hurdles, leaving Behind a trail of disgruntled commuters, unemployed drivers, and an abandoned infrastructure.

Looking Ahead

As Trans Metro Dewata lies in limbo, Bali’s transportation landscape hangs in the balance. The future of public transport in the region remains uncertain, with many questions left unanswered. One thing is clear, however: the JPanel AKlau, the company that operated the system, is under intense scrutiny, with calls for transparency and accountability growing louder.

This story is developing. Stay tuned for updates on Trans Metro Dewata’s fate and the broader implications on Indonesia’s public transport landscape.

"Facing the Death Penalty: Expect No Festive Cheer at Christmas in This Nation"

by Chief Editor December 29, 2024
written by Chief Editor

Headline: Christmas Banned: Why Some Nations, Like North Korea, Prohibit Festive Celebrations

Subhead: As the world gear up for Christmas, one nation remains steadfast in its opposition to the festive season, with harsh penalties for those who dare to celebrate.

Keywords: Christmas, North Korea, banned holiday, penalties, Kim Jong Un

Meta Description: Discover why North Korea, along with several other countries, has outlawed Christmas celebrations, leaving many of its citizens unaware of the holiday’s significance.

Christmas, a time of joy and merriment worldwide, is celebrated annually on December 25. However, for residents of North Korea, the merriest day of the year is met with stark silence and potential repercussions. The secretive nation, ruled by the Kim dynasty since its inception, has long հաջողাল opposed the celebration of Christmas, deeming it a capitalist and Christian intrusion.

A History of Opposition

The first public declaration opposing Christmas celebrations came in 2016 from North Korea’s then-new ruler, Kim Jong Un. However, the roots of this disdain run deep, with the Kim regime having taken a hard stance against religious freedoms since 1948.

North Korea’s constitution nominally guarantees freedom of religion, but in practice, the state maintains strict control over religious activities. Only a few state-approved faiths, namely Korean shamanism, Christianity, and Buddhism, are officially recognized, with tight restrictions on their activities.

Life Without Christmas

For many North Koreans, life without Christmas is simply the norm. Kang Jimin, a North Korean defector, confessed, "There’s no Christmas in North Korea. I didn’t know what it was. North Korea is a communist country, so people don’t know who Jesus Christ is. They don’t know who God is. The Kim family is their god."

Even those who manage to learn about Christmas often struggle to comprehend its significance. Ji Hyun Park, the first North Korean to defect to the UK in 1998, initially believed Boxing Day was an international sporting event.

Strangely, Christmas trees laden with decorations and lights can be found throughout Pyongyang, North Korea’s capital. Yet, for many locals, these trees likely hold no more significance than any other piece of city decor.

Celebrating in Secret

While the official stance on Christmas is clear, whispers of underground celebrations persist. Timothy Cho, another North Korean defector, revealed that some Christians covertly honor the day, but the risks are exorbitantly high.

"If caught, the minimum punishment is being sent to a labor camp and forced to work hard. The extreme case is execution on the spot," Cho told The Sun.

A Different December 24

Rather than-celebrating Christmas Eve, North Koreans are instead encouraged to honor Kim Jong Suk, the grandmother of current leader Kim Jong Un, on December 24. The day is marked by visits to her birthplace in Hoeryong, where residents pay their respects with flowers, bows, and songs.

Although Christmas is officially banned, a few Christian churches do exist in North Korea. However, they differ significantly from traditional Christian churches, with NKDB, a database on human rights issues in North Korea, estimating 121 religious facilities, including 64 Buddhist temples, 52 Cheondoism shrines, and just five Christian churches.

Not Alone in Banning Christmas

North Korea is not the only nation to outlaw Christmas celebrations. Somalia, Tajikistan, and Brunei have also imposed bans, with penalties including imprisonment of up to five years.

As the rest of the world prepares for a season of joy and giving, these nations stand out as exceptions, their unique political and religious landscapes dictating a very different December 25 for their citizens.
