Bangka Island Expands Tourism Appeal with New Grape-Picking Destination
Bangka Island is diversifying its tourism offerings beyond its traditional beaches. A new destination has emerged in the Pesona Bay area of Tanjung Pesona Beach, Sungailiat, where grape-picking tours are providing a fresh alternative for visitors seeking a different atmosphere.
Strategically located just 30 minutes from Pangkalpinang, the site features a grape orchard alongside a modern glamping ground, a restaurant for gatherings, and a swimming pool facing the sea.
A Diverse Selection of Grapes
Visitors to the orchard can sample more than a dozen varieties of grapes. Agus, the manager of Pesona Bay’s grape-picking tours, noted the variety available at the site on Sunday, May 10, 2026. “There are 13 types of grapes here, including Jupiter, Dixon, Ninnel, Beauty Kratsoka, Trans, Rainbow, Gosv, Velez, and Muscat,” he said.
The orchard’s development began as a side project intended to utilize vacant land within the glamping area. However, the site’s popularity grew significantly after it went viral on social media, prompting management to expand the planting area to accommodate increasing crowds.
“We have been planting for a year. People saw the vines bearing fruit and shared them online. Because of the crowds, we added more space and plan to include strawberries and papayas,” Agus added.
Freshness as a Primary Attraction
For many guests, the ability to pick fruit directly from the vine completes the staycation experience. Winda, a regular visitor, highlighted the site’s family-friendly atmosphere and high-quality facilities.
“I have been here several times. We usually camp while the kids swim. The facilities are complete, clean, and offer a great view. The grape tour makes the vacation more enjoyable,” she said.
Winda also emphasized that the freshness and color of the fruit are major draws for visitors. “Because It’s picked directly from the tree, it tastes much fresher. The fruits are also colorful. The staff mentioned strawberries are coming next; I plan to return once they bear fruit,” she said.
Future Outlook
As the destination evolves, the planned introduction of strawberries and papayas could further expand the site’s agricultural variety. This expansion may allow the location to continue catering to the crowds drawn by its social media presence.
