Headline:
Ex-Prosecutor Zarof Ricar‘s Rp1 Trillion Stash Under Scrutiny; Origin and Intent Being Investigated

The prosecutorial arm of Indonesia’s highest law enforcement body, the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung), continues to delve into the origins and purpose of a substantial cash sum, nearly Rp1 trillion, found in the residence of former Balitbang Diklat Kumdil Mahkamah Agung (MA) Zarof Ricar. Jaksa Agung Muda (Deputy Attorney General) Febrie Adriansyah, leading the investigation under the Tindak Pidana Khusus (Khusus) division, acknowledged the complexity of the task given the monetary volume and history involved.

Speaking to reporters, Febrie noted, "We’re identifying several aspects. First, who provided this money, which isn’t easy given the history involved. Second, the actual amount. Third, the connection to any specific case, all of which requires meticulous investigation and forensics."

Ricar, a former top prosecutor, has allegedly been receiving hefty bribes for case handling at MA. Previously, Direktorat Penyidikan Jaksa Agung Muda Bidang Tindak PidanaKhusu Kejagung Abdul Qohar disclosed that Ricar had amassed approximately Rp920 billion in illegal payments since 2012, comprising cash, foreign currencies, and gold bars.

The money, primarily in US Dollar, Singapore Dollar, Hong Kong Dollar, Euro, and Rupiah, totaled Rp920.912.303.714 upon conversion. Additionally, investigators discovered 46.9 kg of gold bars and a Hermes bag containing more gold pieces and certificates.

Febrie cautioned against rushing to conclusions, acknowledging that Ricar’s claims must be corroborated with concrete evidence, including a clear motive behind the payouts. He urged the public to exercise patience, allowing investigators to complete their probe fully.

As the investigation unfolds, the Attorney General’s Office is temporarily restricting Ricar’s media access to prevent potential interference with ongoing fieldwork. The agency remains committed to uncovering and presenting the truth, ensuring justice is served accordingly.

This is a developing story. Stay with CNN Indonesia for further updates.

Indonesian Police‘s Ethics Commission Demotes Officer Involved in DWP 2024 Extortion Case

In a significant turn of events, the Indonesian National Police (Polri) has held a disciplinary hearing for a police officer, initialed as ‘D’, who was allegedly involved in extorting attendees at the Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP) 2024. As a result, the officer has been demoted for a period of five years.

The decision was announced by Kombes Erdi Adrimulan Chaniago, the Head of Public Relations Division at the National Police Headquarters in Jakarta. The officer, who was serving as the Chief of snacks at the Subdivision III of the National Narcotics Agency’s Regional Office in Metro Jaya, was found to have demanded money from attendees in exchange for their release after being arrested on suspicion of drug use.

Consequently, the officer has been issued a demotion of five years, effective immediately. Furthermore, he has been instructed to apologize verbally during the disciplinary hearing and in writing to the Police Chief. The officer will also undergo a month-long program focusing on spiritual, mental, and professional knowledge development.

In addition to these sanctions, the officer has been placed in a special patrol unit (Patsus) for 20 days, starting from December 27, 2024, until January 15, 2025. This decision was made following a thorough investigation involving the officer and four witnesses.

The disciplinary hearing was held today from 9:00 AM to 2:10 PM WIB at the Propam Division’s Meeting Room, 1st Floor of the TNCC Building at the National Police Headquarter. Brigjen Agus Wijayanto, the Karowabprof (Head of Professional Security Division) in the Propam Division, served as the Chairman of the Hearing Committee, with Kombes Heri Setyawan, the Head of Internal Ethics Division in the Propam Division, acting as Vice-Chairman.

The three members of the committee were AKBP Heru Waluyo, AKBP Rusdi Batubara, and AKBP Endang Werdiningsih, who served as the heads of their respective sub-divisions in the Propam Division.

The committee found that the officer had been involved in ensuring the safety of DWP 2024 attendees, including both WNI (Indonesian citizens) and WNA (foreigners), following reports of drug use. However, during the subsequent investigation, he demanded money in exchange for their release.

The officer’s actions violated several regulations, including the PP No. 1/2003 regarding the Dismissal of Police Officers, the PP No. 7/2022 regarding the Code of Ethics and the Ethics Commission of the Indonesian National Police. The officer has the right to appeal the decision.

The incident occurred during the DWP event at the JIExpo Kemayoran in Central Jakarta on December 13-15, 2024. A total of 18 officers from the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Metro Jakarta Pusat District Police, and Kemayoran Police Sector were involved. As of January 8, 2025, 12 officers have already been subject to disciplinary hearings, and the process will continue until all 18 officers have been addressed.

Mobil Driver Beaten After Siding With Motorist in Anti-Traffic Law Incident

A Jakarta driver with the license plate MA was brutally assaulted after confronting a motorcycle rider who was driving against traffic flow in Fatmawati, South Jakarta. The victim was beaten with a golf club and a wooden plank, resulting in severe injuries, including head lacerations and bruises on his right arm.

The incident transpired at 2:00 AM on Tuesday (7/1), with the victim being driven along the Fatmawati area from Blok M. Ade Ary Syam Indradi, the Metropolitan Police‘s General Crimes Director, provided a report, stating, "The victim asked the motorist to reverse and stop driving against the flow of traffic, but the motorist refused."

Ade Ary continued, "The motorist then called his friends, who used wooden planks and golf clubs to assault the victim. The victim sustained serious injuries to his forehead, upper back, and right arm."

Despite the assault, the victim managed to report the incident to the police. The case is currently under investigation at the Kebayoran Baru Police Station.

Breaking: Police Bust Online Gambling Syndicate’s Money Laundering Scheme; Seize Luxury Hotel in Semarang

Jakarta – Police have detected an alleged money laundering operation linked to a major online gambling ring. The illegal activities were uncovered by detectives at the Indonesian National Police’s (Polri) Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim), who traced one of the criminal syndicate’s assets back to a luxurious hotel in Semarang, Central Java.

Luxury Hotel Seized Amid Ongoing Investigation

The targeted property is the four-star Hotel Aruss, currently under police surveillance. According to investigators, the hotel was funded using proceeds from illicit online gambling operations, totaling a staggering Rp 40.5 billion. The hotel is now in the hands of authorities.

"This operation is still ongoing, and the identities of those involved have yet to be confirmed," said Brigjen Helfi Assegaf, the director of the Criminal Investigation Agency’s Anti-Corruption and Special Crime Division (Dirtipideksus) during a press conference at the National Police headquarters in South Jakarta.

The criminal network allegedly runs multiple online gambling platforms, including Dapabet and Agen 138. The operation’s proceeds were allegedly laundered through a series of bank transfers between five accounts before being used to purchase the seized hotel.

Hotel Continues Operations Under Scrutiny

Despite the police intervention, the hotel remains operational. Assegaf explained that while the hotel’s manager is part of the criminal organization, they have been cooperating with the authorities as a witness.

"We’ve taken control of the hotel to prevent further transactions, but we’re not halting its day-to-day operations just yet. We’ll wait for further instruction," said Assegaf.

A hotel representative, Ahmad Maulana, confirmed that they are cooperating with the police investigation and have posted signs announcing the property’s seizure. The hotel’s public relations officer, Lala Nikmah, confirmed that operations continue as normal, with no reports of guests canceling their reservations.

Assegaf hinted that there may be additional seizures and charges in the near future as the investigation unfolds.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.

The Fate of Prabowo’s PPN Batal Naik Program After Rp75T HANGUS Imbas

by Chief Editor January 7, 2025
written by Chief Editor

Headline: Indonesia Shelves PPN Hike, Losing Out on Rp75 Trillion in Revenue

Subhead: Government scraps planned 12% VAT increase, impacting APBN 2025 and presidential programs

Article:

In a policy U-turn, the Indonesian government has abandoned plans to raise the value-added tax (VAT) or pajak pertambahan nilai (PPN) from 11% to 12% as of January 1, 2025. This decision, announced by Wakil Ketua DPR RI Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, has significant fiscal implications, with the government set to miss out on potential revenue of Rp75 trillion.

Theatetration of a 12% PPN would have only applied to barang mewah (luxury goods), a departure from the original plan to implement it across all goods and services. According to Dasco, the new policy change means that instead of the projected Rp75 trillion, the government will only gain an additional Rp3.2 trillion in additional APBN funds for 2025.

Menteri Keuangan Sri Mulyani Indrawati played down the impact of the lost revenue, saying that the APBN management for 2025 is still dynamic and will be updated monthly. Dirjen Pajak Suryo Utomo acknowledged the loss but asserted that they would explore other avenues to boost tax revenue.

The decision to scrap the PPN hike could pose challenges for President Prabowo Subianto‘s administration, which has ambitious spending plans, including the Makan Bergizi Gratis (MBG) program, budgeted at Rp71 trillion this year. Analysts suggest that while the lost revenue will impact the fiscal position, it may not directly affect Prabowo’s flagship programs.

Ronny P Sasmita, Senior Analyst at the Indonesia Strategic and Economic Action Institution, argues that the government might consider raising debt or reallocating funds from low-priority projects to offset the lost revenue. However, he believes that Prabowo is unlikely to cut fuel subsidies to fund other programs due to the potential political backlash.

Yusuf Rendy Manilet, Economist at the Center of Reform on Economics (Core) Indonesia, agrees that the government has some room to maneuver and can consider optimizing revenues from other sectors, digitalizing taxation systems, and improving governance to compensate for the lost PPN increase.

Meanwhile, sustainability experts propose alternative revenue-generating measures. Tata Mustasya from SUSTAIN Indonesia suggests raising export taxes on coal and nickel to generate potentially Rp84.55 trillion to Rp353.7 trillion yearly. Abdurrahman Arum of Transisi Bersihi adds that a 10%-20% export tax on nickel products could generate Rp50 trillion to Rp100 trillion annually.

In conclusion, the Indonesian government’s decision to scrap the PPN hike has significant fiscal implications, posing challenges for President Prabowo’s administration. To offset the lost revenue, the government should explore various fiscal policy adjustments, improved governance, and revenue-generating measures to maintain its ambitious spending plans while ensuring fiscal sustainability.

Jakarta, Indonesia – Minister of Migrant Worker Protection and Head of the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI), Abdul Kadir Karding, has confirmed that no cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) have been reported among Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) as of today. Bali Residents Warned of Spreading HMPV Outbreak in China

by Chief Editor January 6, 2025
written by Chief Editor

Headline:
Bali on High Alert: Dinkes Monitors Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) Amid China Outbreak

Subhead:
Island tightens surveillance and preparedness as respiratory virus spreads in China.

Introduction:
Amid a rising Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) case count in China, Bali’s health authority, Dinas Kesehatan (Dinkes), is bolstering its vigilance. The virus, while similar to the common flu, is causing concern given its spreading momentum and potential severe symptoms, particularly in vulnerable populations.

Article Body:

Dinkes Bali Raises Awareness and Surveillance
Denpasar, Indonesia – Dinkes Bali is stepping up its watch over the potential entry and spread of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in the region. The Acting Head of the Prevention and Control of Disease Division, I Gusti Ayu Raka Susanti, told local media outlet detikBali, "We are on alert and increasing our surveillance in areas where there is a high influx of people, while coordinating with healthcare facilities to ensure readiness."

The Bali health department is also amplifying health promotion activities, even down to the village health center level. Moreover, it is collaborating with the Quarantine Office to monitor the health of incoming tourists, particularly those from China.

KKP Kelas I Denpasar Monitors Arrivals from Malaysia and China
Bali’s leading Quarantine Office, KKP Kelas I Denpasar, is closely monitoring flights from Malaysia and China at Ngurah Rai International Airport. “Maskapai-maskapai yang dari China dan Malaysia perlu kami atensi khusus, walaupun kami belum menerapkan protokol kesehatan,” said Anak Agung Ngurah Kesumajaya, the Head of KKP Kelas I Denpasar.

To prevent HMPV entry, the office is implementing a variety of strategies. All passengers are required to fill out the Satu Sehat Health Pass (SSHP) three days before their flight. This enables the detection of potential HMPV symptoms before arrival. Three thermo scanners at the international arrival gates help identify passengers with high body temperatures, who are then directed to the airport’s quarantine clinic for further examination.

Ministry of Health on HMPV
The Indonesian Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, has addressed the global rise in HMPV cases. Unlike COVID-19, HMPV is not a new virus and has been present since 2001. Indonesia has recorded cases but the virus is not fatal, according to the Minister. He assured the public that while HMPV causes respiratory symptoms, it is not as severe as COVID-19.

Installment of Health Measures
Bali is fortifying its healthcare infrastructure and preparedness to address the potential spread of HMPV. Several leading hospitals, including RSUP Prof. Dr. I Gede Nipah Putra, Bali Mandara Hospital, and Siloam Hospital, have been designated as referral hospitals for HMPV cases.

Conclusion
Bali’s proactive approach to monitoring and preparedness, led by Dinkes Bali and KKP Kelas I Denpasar, demonstrates the island’s commitment to safeguarding public health while maintaining its vibrant tourism industry. As the Human Metapneumovirus situation evolves, Bali’s health authorities remain vigilant, ready to take further action if necessary.
