Headline: tragedy Strikes: Truck’s Lack of Power Triggers Fatal Bus Accident on Toll Road

Subheadline: A truck‘s inability to ascend triggers a horrifying bus vs. truck accident on the Pandaan-Malang Toll Road, resulting in four fatalities and numerous injuries.

Article:

In a tragic turn of events, a bus carrying students from a SMP in Bogor, West Java, was involved in a fatal accident at Km 77 of the Pandaan-Malang Toll Road, heading towards Surabaya, East Java. The incident, caused by a truck’s inability to ascend, claimed the lives of four individuals and left dozens more injured.

Facts of the Horrifying Incident:

  1. Rombongan SMP Bogor Involved:
The bus, coated in a bright red, was transporting students from SMP IT Darul Quran, Gunung Sindur, Bogor. The trip was part of an end-of-year educational program to improve their English skills in Kampung Inggris, Pare, Kediri.

  2. Aftermath and Evacuation:
The accident occurred around 3:40 PM on Monday, December 23, 2024. The road going towards Malang-Surabaya was temporarily closed as Jasa Marga Pandaan-Malang worked to clear the wreckage and divert traffic.

  3. Korban and Evakuasi:
Four individuals, including the bus driver and a conductor, lost their lives in the crash. Their identities are as follows:

    • Untung Subagyo (46), the bus driver from Magetan

Fatal School Bus and Truck Collision on Pandaan-Malang Highway: Five Heartbreaking Facts

by Chief Editor December 24, 2024
written by Chief Editor

Malang, Indonesia – A tragic accident involving a Tirto Agung tourist bus and a loaded cattle feed truck occurred yesterday on the Pandaan-Malang toll road at KM 77, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to many others. This unfortunate incident took place during the Christmas and New Year holidays of 2024-2025.

Investigations by local police reveal that the accident, which occurred at 15:40 WIB, was likely caused by a truck that was not strong enough to continue uphill. The driver reportedly tried to stop the truck on the main road but lost control, causing it to reverse uncontrollably into the path of the following bus.

Malang Police Chief AKBP Putu Kholis Aryana confirmed that the road leading up to KM 77 of the Pandaan-Malang toll road from Surabaya to Malang is quite steep and curves to the left. He suspects that the truck driver did not properly secure the load before parking on the shoulder, leading to the loss of control.

The bus, with the license plate number S 7607 UW, was heavily damaged on its right side, while the rear left side of the truck was the most severely impacted. The bus was carrying a group of students from SMP Darul Quran Mulia Putri, Bogor, and their chaperones, en route to Kampung Inggris in Kediri.

Initial reports indicate that there were 52 people on the bus, including 45 females and 7 males. Sadly, four individuals lost their lives: Untung Subagyo (46), the bus driver from Magetan; Ahmad Bahrur (23), the bus attendant from Jombang; Tri Subangkit (23); and Iyan Maryanah (28), both of whom were student chaperones.

The accident caused significant backups on the toll road, with traffic congestion reaching up to 5 kilometers at its peak. To alleviate the congestion, traffic was temporarily rerouted to the Purwodadi toll road.

Local emergency services worked swiftly to evacuate the injured to nearby hospitals in Malang City and Malang Regency. This tragic accident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for proper vehicle maintenance and responsible driving.

Fatal Accident on Pandaan-Malang Toll Road: Bus Carrying SMP IT Darul Quran Mulia Putri Bogor Students Collides with Truck

Malang – A tragic accident occurred on the Pandaan-Malang Toll Road at KM 77, claiming the lives of four individuals. A bus transporting students from SMP IT Darul Quran Mulia Putri Bogor collided with a truck carrying animal feed, resulting in fatalities. The truck, with license plate L 9126 UU, was unable to ascend the hill, causing it to reverse uncontrollably into the path of the oncoming bus, which was unable to avoid the collision.

The incident transpired at 15:40 WIB. Witnesses reported that the truck, laden with animal feed, struggled to climb the incline, causing the driver to stop the vehicle on the toll road. Unbeknownst to him, the bus with license plate S 7607 UW, carrying the SMP IT Darul Quran Mulia Putri Bogor students en route to Kampung Inggris, Kediri, was approaching from behind.

Suddenly, the truck transporting animal feed reversed uncontrolled onto the toll road, blocking the path of the approaching bus. The bus driver’s attempt to prevent a collision was unsuccessful, resulting in a severe impact that claimed four lives.

Malang Police Chief AKBP Putu Kholis Aryana stated that the road contour at KM 77 on the Pandaan-Malang Toll Road from Surabaya to Malang is slightly inclined and curves to the left. "The truck should have taken appropriate safety measures when parking, butUnfortunately, this was not done, leading to this unfortunate incident," Kholis said on Monday (December 23, 2024).

The bus, carrying approximately 47 individuals including 40 students, accompaniments, and crew members, sustained minor damage on the right side as a result of the collision. The truck, however, suffered severe damage on its left rear section, while the bus’s right side was most affected.

Currently, the police are focusing on identifying and documenting the deceased and injured victims. DNA-based identification methods are being employed due to the unavailability of identification tags attached to the victims.

The accident caused significant traffic congestion on the Pandaan-Malang Toll Road, with reported delays of up to 5 kilometers. As a result, traffic from Surabaya to Malang was diverted to the Purwodadi Toll Road. Vehicles trapped ahead of the closure continue to await evacuation.
