Armed Police Deployment in Bergen Hotel After Possible Threat

BERGEN — In a prompt response to a potential security threat, armed police swiftly converged on a city-center hotel in Bergen. The incident unfolded when local law enforcement received credible information about a possible danger involving a knife.

According to multiple sources, the police received a report suggesting that an individual with a knife was present at the hotel. Acting swiftly, the police dispatched armed units to secure the scene and investigate the reported threat.

Witnesses described a scene of rapid deployment, with officers arriving within minutes of the initial call. Police cordoned off the area and began conducting a thorough search of the premises. Guests and staff were asked to remain calm and stay indoors while the situation was assessed.

"No shots were fired, and there were no injuries reported," a police spokesperson confirmed later. "The situation was resolved quickly and effectively thanks to the prompt action of our units."

While the police declined to comment further on the details of the case, they reassured the public that this was an isolated incident and that there is no cause for alarm. They called upon the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. Security at the hotel was promptly reinforced following the incident.

Espen Teigen Shuns the Verdict

Norway’s Espen Teigen Accepts Sentence, Vows Not to Appeal

In a surprising turn of events, Espen Teigen, a former advisor to Sylvi Listhaug, has announced that he will not appeal his recent conviction. The news was first reported by Adresseavisen.

Teigen was found guilty of securing an unfair advantage by having staff at the Office of the Prime Minister (SMK) allocate him a free commuter apartment, despite not being eligible. This arrangement, running from March 1, 2016, to April 18, 2018, benefited Teigen to the tune of 390,000 NOK. However, he failed to report the tax advantage.

Teigen, who earlier served as Listhaug’s political advisor, admitted his guilt when the case was heard at Oslo District Court previously in December. The case was settled as a guilty plea.

In response to his conviction, Teigen has stated on Facebook, "I have decided not to appeal. I will serve my sentence, make amends, and save resources and taxpayers’ money in the process. It will take more than this to break me."

After leaving his political post, Teigen went on to work as a journalist at Document.

Transport Minister Calls Emergency Meeting Following Train Crash

Transport Minister Summons Bane Nor, Norwegian National Rail Administration, and the Norwegian Rail Direktorate for Emergency Meeting Following Christmas Eve Train Chaos

Transport minister Jon-Ivar Nygård (Labour) has convened an urgent meeting for the first week of January with Bane Nor, the Norwegian National Rail Administration, and the Norwegian Rail Direktorate. The minister aims to seek explanations for the Christmas Eve train chaos and discuss preventive measures to avoid such disruptions in the future, as reported by TV 2.

The train breakdown resulted from a technical glitch in Bane Nor’s communication system, defeating efforts to restore services until 8:08 PM on Christmas Day, approximately 13 hours after the problem was reported at 7:55 AM.

"I believe we all agree that it’s highly inconvenient when trains don’t run as scheduled," Nygård said in an email to TV 2. "There’s consensus that much of the explanation lies in outdated infrastructure and old train sets. We’re addressing that."

The minister underscored the Norwegian government’s efforts to allocate substantial funds for infrastructure maintenance and resilience, as well as the procurement of new, modern trains set to arrive in the coming years. Nygård also noted his ongoing encouragement for the Norwegian National Rail Administration and Bane Nor to prioritize punctuality, citing favorable collaboration among all stakeholders in the railway sector to improve performance.

The upcoming meeting highlights the government’s commitment to ensuring reliable and efficient public transportation, following the Christmas Eve incident that left hundreds of travelers stranded and exacerbated existing concerns over Norway’s aging rail infrastructure.
