Gamma Family Coordinates with Experts to Report General Irwan to Propam

Headline: Family of SMK Student Fatally Shot by Police Considers Legal Action Against Officer as He’s Transferred

Subhead: Relatives of Gamma Rizkynata Oktafandy, the 17-year-old SMK student killed by a police officer in Semarang, Jawa Tengah, are weighing legal options against Kombes Pol Irwan, the former head of Semarang’s Police Resort, who has been transferred to the Police Education and Training Center (STIK) in Jakarta.

Article:

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia — The family of Gamma Rizkynata Oktafandy, the teenager killed by a police officer in Semarang, Jawa Tengah, is considering taking legal action against Kombes Pol Irwan, who was recently transferred from his position as the head of Semarang’s Police Resort to the Police Education and Training Center (STIK) in Jakarta.

Irwan has been embroiled in controversy since the incident in November, where a police officer, Aipda Robig Zainudin, shot and killed Gamma during a confrontation. Irwan, as the then-head of Semarang’s Police Resort, issued a statement claiming that Robig had fired in self-defense after being threatened with a sharp weapon during an attempt to disperse a street brawl.

However, Irwan’s version of events has been disputed. The family of Gamma, represented by Zaenal Abidin ‘Petir’, has questioned Irwan’s account, arguing that the officer’s actions were not justified. They have since demanded that Irwan be removed from his position, citing a lack of professionalism and potential corruption of the investigation.

The family is now considering filing a complaint against Irwan with the Police Professional Ethics Commission (Propam) at the National Police Headquarters (Mabes Polri). "We’re still gathering information from experts to confirm if Irwan’s statements can indeed be reported," said Subambang, the family’s spokesperson and Gamma’s grandfather. "We need to be careful not to make any mistakes."

The family’s lawyer, Zaenal, has welcomed Irwan’s transfer but has also called for a review of the former officer’s actions. "Polri should evaluate Irwan’s decision to try and ‘protect’ Robig after he fatally shot Gamma and his friends," he said. Zaenal also criticized Irwan’s visit to Gamma’s family shortly after the teenager’s death, suggesting it was an attempt to hush up the matter.

The family maintains that Irwan should not be allowed to hold a similar position in the future. "It’s only right that he’s no longer the head of Semarang’s Police Resort," said Zaenal. "But we’ll still report him to Propam for not conducting a transparent investigation into Gamma’s case."

However, the public relations department of the Jawa Tengah Police has denied that Irwan’s transfer is a result of the incident. Kombes Artanto, the department’s head, stated that the transfer is a routine rotation within the police force.

The officer who shot Gamma, Aipda Robig Zainudin, has been dismissed from the police force and is currently facing legal charges for murder and assault causing death, as filed by Gamma’s family. The investigation into the case is ongoing.

In a recent hearing with the DPR’s Commission III, Irwan expressed his condolences to Gamma’s family and the people of Semarang, stating that he was prepared to face any consequences for his actions. However, his apology has done little to appease the family, who continue to seek justice for Gamma’s death.

Banyumas Man with Disability Arrested After Fatally Beating Wife

A man identified by the initials FA (27), a resident of Grumbul Sidayasa, Kedungrandu Village, Patikraja District, Banyumas Regency, surrendered to police on Saturday (28/7) after allegedly fatally beating his wife, J (27), with a flathead screwdriver. The incident occurred on Friday (27/7) evening.

Local resident Siran (52), who is acquainted with the suspect, revealed that FA is a former peddler of Bangkok chickens. Due to his disability, he now runs his business online, with customers picking up their purchases at his residence.

"The suspect used to sell Bangkok chickens on the street, but now he sells them online. Customers come to his house to pick up their orders," Siran told reporters.

Siran also shared that the victim, J, worked as a maid and that the couple often argued due to the suspect’s jealous nature. He suspected J of cheating on him.

"They used to fight a lot. The suspect would often accuse his wife of cheating on him. I’ve tried to mediate their disputes several times," Siran said.

The suspect’s disability was the result of a farming accident some years ago, according to Siran. FA moved to his current residence about two years ago, where he has been living with his wife, mother, and a young niece.

"His child is about 8 years old. The wife sent the child away before the incident," Siran revealed.

FA confessed to killing J with a flathead screwdriver, striking her on the back of the neck. Police later found J’s body lying on the bed in their room.

Earlier reports stated that a deadly assault involving a married couple had occurred in Grumbul Sidayasa, Kedungrandu Village. The couple, both aged 27, were identified as FA and J.

Kedungrandu police chief, Commissioner Andryansyah Rithas Hasibuan, confirmed the incident and the suspect’s arrest. He also revealed that the motive behind the murder was likely jealousy, as FA suspected J of infidelity.

"The suspect was outraged by the possibility of his wife cheating on him. The wife’s phone was found in FA’s possession. The victim’s body has been sent for an autopsy," Andryansyah said.

This is a developing story, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available. (aku/aku)

Savage Attack: Affluent Sister Abuses Younger Sibling’s Financial Records

Title: Gruesome Poisoning: Woman Faces 15 Years or Death for Murdering Teenage Sister-in-Law

In a chilling act of barbarism that rocked the city of Palembang, Rika Amalia (19) is under arrest for poisoning her teenage sister-in-law, AN (13), with a deadly concoction of jamu and potassium carbonate (potas). The heinous crime has left Palembang residents in shock and authorities pushing for the maximum penalty.

Rika’s brutal act unfolded on the afternoon of December 18, 2024, at a residence in Kelurahiran 5 Ulu, Seberang Ulu I, Palembang. She challenged AN to a drinking contest, promising Rp 300,000 to the winner who could down a 600 ml bottle of ‘jamu’ without vomiting. AN, unaware of the deadly secret, took the bet and consumed the poisoned drink.

The Aftermath

AN initially struggled to keep down the drink, hopeful of winning the cash prize. However, she soon stumbled to the bathroom, heaved, and collapsed, succumbing to the toxic effects of the potas. Rika callously left AN to die and, once satisfied that her victim was lifeless, dragged the body to hide it behind a wardrobe.

AN’s mother returned home from her Religious lesson around 3:30 PM and inquired about her daughter’s whereabouts. Rika feigned ignorance and left the house. She then messaged her husband, YA, revealing the drinking contest and mentioning AN was behind the wardrobe.

Arrest and Charges

Rika attempted to flee to Lampung but was apprehended by police in Kelurahan 13 Ilir, Palembang. She now faces an uphill battle to evade a penalty of up to 15 years in prison or even death, charged under the Child Protection Law (UU Perlindungan Anak), Article 338 and/or 340 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) on Premeditated Murder.

Motive: A Sinister Case of Revenge

In custody, Rika confessed to police that she harbored grudge against AN, blaming her for frequent taunts about her newborn baby. "The suspect had long been annoyed by the victim, who often ridiculed her about her baby," admitted Head of Palembang Metro Police, Kombes Harryo Sugihhartono.

Investigators procured evidence through AN’s phone and computer logs, confirming Rika had ordered the potassium carbonate online on December 2, 2024. Police believe Rika mixed the entire package into the 600 ml water bottle AN drank.

The Palembang Metropolitan Police urges anyone with information about this case to come forward and assist in delivering justice for AN.

Seram: A Boy Sacrificed as a Mortar for His Father

Title: Unprecedented Ritual burial: Teen Sacrificed for Relatives in Ancient Andean Elite Rite

In a groundbreaking discovery about ancient Andean burial practices, researchers found two teenagers, who were likely related to adults in their grave, sacrificed around 1,500 years ago—an unprecedented ritual among the Moche culture. This revelation sheds new light on the complex societal structures and burial rites of this pre-Columbian society.

The teenagers, a boy and a girl, were discovered alongside six other individuals, including the high-status ‘Señora de Cao,’ within a pyramid-like structure called Huaca Cao Viejo in Peru. Unlike previous Moche burial sites, this one displayed striking familial connections among the deceased.

Genetic testing revealed that Señora de Cao was related to the young girl sacrificed, potentially as an aunt and niece. The girl’s probable father was one of the adult men found in the same grave, which also included Señora de Cao’s brothers. Another adult man, an older relative, was interred decades prior, hinting at a uniquely intimate familial network within this elite burial site.

The most shocking discovery was that one of the adult men was the father of the sacrificed boy. This suggests a new interpretation of Moche sacrificial rituals, as one researcher noted, "This is a very private and dignified form of sacrifice, perhaps reserved for someone of high social or spiritual status."

The reasons behind these familial sacrifices remain enigmatic, with future research hopefully shedding more light on thetopic. Experts like Jeffrey Quilter from Harvard University underscore the complex interplay of power dynamics and religious practices within Moche society. As further excavation and analysis take place, we may uncover even more intriguing insights into this enigmatic civilization.

Yet, this discovery already challenges our understanding of Moche burial rites, showcasing the intricate familial connections and rituals that bound this ancient Andean society.

The Watermelon Soldier: A Guerrilla’s Tale Against Myanmar’s Military Junta

by Chief Editor December 24, 2024
written by Chief Editor

Headline: Undercover Soldiers: How Myanmar‘s "Watermelons" Tip the Balance in Favor of Pro-Democracy Rebels

Subhead: Once loyal to the military, they’re now covertly aiding the anti-junta fight, turning the tide in Myanmar’s long-standing conflict.

Article:

In the complex and volatile politics of Myanmar, an unexpected force is transforming the balance of power: undercover soldiers, dubbing themselves "Watermelons," are surreptitiously aiding the pro-democracy resistance. These disillusioned military personnel, secretly supporting the opposition, are helping to reclaim territory stolen by the junta since the February 2021 coup.

How ‘Watermelons’ Operate

With their military uniforms hiding their true allegiance, these undercover soldiers – metaphorically known as ‘Watermelons’ for their green exterior but red (pro-democracy) interior – are providing invaluable intelligence. They feed crucial information to the People’s Defense Force (PDF), the armed wing of the anti-junta movement, enabling targeted strikes and helping them evade military counterattacks. Some even donate a portion of their salaries to equip the resistance.

A former military major, Kyaw (not his real name), decided to become a ‘Watermelon’ after witnessing the army’s brutality against civilians. "I saw bodies of civilians who had been tortured. How could they be so cruel to our own people?" he recounts, echoing the sentiments of many who’ve joined the cause.

The ‘Semangka’ Network

Dubbed ‘Semangka’ within the resistance network, these moles operate right from within the military’s ranks. They range from low-ranking privates to high-ranking officers, including those in government positions. A former intelligence officer, Win Aung, now works for the resistance, managing a network of ‘Semangkas’ and vetting them to ensure their loyalty.

agogue, "Military control is weaker than ever," emphasizing that they now only command 21% of Myanmar’s territory, compared to 100% when they seized power in 1962.

Myaung Pyo and the Battle for Yangon

Allied forces, comprising armed ethnic groups and PDF units, now control 42% of the country. The rest is contested, but the trend favors the resistance. A PDF leader, Myaung Pyo, codenamed Daeva, brano the resistance’s expanding influence and their ambition to retake Yangon, Myanmar’s largest city and commercial hub.

Yet, recapturing Yangon won’t be easy. It is still firm under military control, and its strategic importance makes it a priority for the junta. Daeva admits, "[Retaking Yangon] is harder to say than to do, but we’re steadily expanding our influence within the city."

The Long Road Ahead

Despite the military’s ongoing efforts to reclaim lost territories and the risks faced by ‘Semangkas,’ the tide seems to be turning in favor of the pro-democracy resistance. As more soldiers turn against their own military, the prospects for change in Myanmar inch closer.

We Will Eliminate Their Leaders, Like Haniyeh and Sinwar

by Chief Editor December 24, 2024
written by Chief Editor

Israel Vows to Continue Strikes Against Houthis, Threatens Top Leaders

In a forceful statement, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Katz has confirmed that Israel will persist in its attacks against Yemen’s Houthi rebels and warned that top Houthis leaders could face the same fate as Hamas and Hezbollah chiefs recently killed in Israeli operations.

"Just like we decapitated Hamas’ Haniyeh, Sinwar, and Hezbollah’s Nasrallah in Gaza, Lebanon, and Tehran, we will do the same in Hodeida and Sanaa," Katz declared, according to a report by AFP on Tuesday, December 24, 2024.

Katz made these comments at a defense ministry event, marking the first public confirmation that Israel was behind the assassination of Hamas political chief Haniyeh in Tehran last July. While Israel has maintained silence on the matter, Iran and Hamas have accused Israel of the fatal bombing.

Haniyeh, who was considered a key figure in Hamas’ negotiation efforts for a ceasefire in Gaza, was killed at a Tehran residence on July 31, reportedly due to an explosive device planted by Israeli agents weeks earlier. He had attended the inauguration of Iran’s new president, Masoud Pezeshkian, the previous day.

On September 27, Israel targeted and killed Hezbollah secretary-general Nasrallah in an airstrike in Beirut, followed by the assassination of incoming Hamas leader, Sinwar, in Gaza on October 16. Israeli officials have stated that Sinwar had directed a Hamas assault on Israel on October 7, 2023, which sparked the ongoing Gaza conflict.

Katz also warned that any entity opposing Israel would face serious consequences. "Those who fight Israel will have their hands cut off, and IDF will strike and hold them accountable," he added.

The minister’s strong stance reflects Israel’s commitment to countering regional threats, with a particular focus on the Houthis, who have been backed by Israel’s arch-nemesis, Iran. As the conflict in Yemen and the Middle East at large continues to escalate, Israel’s determination to assert its influence and combat perceived threats is becoming increasingly apparent.

Medan: Former Military Man Found Dead After Alleged Kidnapping and Torture by Retired Sergeant

A grim discovery was made when Andreas Sianipar (44), a former military man, was found dead, believed to have been a victim of kidnapping and torture at the hands of retired Sergeant HS, alongside several other individuals. Andreas’ brother, Anggito Sianipar, confirmed the tragic news.

"He was dismissed from the military in 2013," Anggito revealed. The deceased, who held the rank of Sergeant at the time, was formerly colleague to HS, having served together in the 100th Infantry Battalion in Binjai.

A post-mortem examination indicated that Andreas died from asphyxiation, with signs of strangulation and forced nasal obstruction contributing to his demise. After his death, the assailants transported his body to North Labuhanbatu Regency, securing it during transit.

Police have apprehended three civilians suspected of involvement: CJS (23), MFIH (25), and FA (37). Meanwhile, Sergeant HS is in military custody. Authorities are still pursuing one additional suspect.

The motivation behind this heinous act remains under investigation, as local law enforcement continues to piece together the events leading to Andreas’ tragic end. (afb/afb)

Weird Behavior: pigs Turn Carnivorous

Headline:
Unlikely Predator: Squirrels in California Turn Carnivorous, Feasting on Mice

Subhead:
A study published in the journal Ethology reveals a surprising shift in the diet of California ground squirrels, driven by a boom in local mouse populations.

Article:

In an unexpected turn of events, ground squirrels in a California park have been observed engaging in deadly pursuits, preying upon mice and consuming their flesh from bones. This peculiar behavior, caught on camera by researchers from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and University of California, Davis, has been documented in a recent study published in the journal Ethology.

Tupai tanah viveregg, the scientific name for the California ground squirrel, typically maintains a vegetarian diet, feasting on seeds and nuts. However, in the Regional Parks of Contra Costa County, these squirrels have exhibited an unprecedented shift towards carnivory. The study, led by Jennifer Smith, a professor of biology at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, details how these once-peaceful rodents have become formidable predators, systematically hunting and consuming mice.

The remarkable transformation in the squirrels’ diet was first noticed by two student researchers in 2024. Smith, initially incredulous, promptly initiated a thorough investigation of the phenomena. Every day, between June 10 and July 30, the research team documented instances of squirrels actively chasing, capturing, and devouring mice—an unsettling sight typically involving the gnawing of flesh from bones.

The extraordinary dietary shift is attributed to a surge in local mouse populations, a phenomenon known as an "outbreak." Squirrel populations are known to stabilize and fluctuate on multi-year cycles, with peaks occurring roughly every three to five years. This year, however, has seen an unusually high number of mice, approximately seven times the average over the past decade.

As the mouse population spikes, squirrels, driven by increased competition and scarcity of typical food sources, turn to the abundance of prey around them. This behavioral adaptation, while unprecedented, is not uncommon among animals. In fact, California ground squirrels are known for their dietary flexibility, consuming a variety of foods including insects, bird eggs, and even smaller squirrels under normal circumstances.

However, the active hunting and consumption of adult mammals remains a significant departure from the norm. The researchers hypothesize that this behavior may have long-term consequences on the squirrels’ health and reproductive success, a notion they plan to explore further in upcoming studies.

Smith also posits that this aggressive hunting strategy may have evolved due to the size advantage ground squirrels hold over their mouse counterparts. Weighing about ten times more than a typical California mouse, ground squirrels possess a distinct physical advantage when engaging in predation.

Yet, the researchers caution that while mice are currently the primary target, ground squirrels may seek out other prey should their numbers dwindle. Nonetheless, the prospect of ground squirrels permanently adopting a carnivorous lifestyle seems unlikely, as their population numbers are expected to normalize in the coming years, restoring the balance to their typical seed-based diet.

The study serves as a vivid reminder of the complexities and adaptabilities of ecosystems, where species can alter their behaviors and diets in response to shifting environmental conditions. As the researchers continue to monitor the ground squirrels in California, one can only wonder what other surprises await in the intricate tapestry of nature.
