Indonesia’s PSI Slams PDIP‘s Hasto for Bung Karno Comparison Amidst Corruption Allegations

Jakarta, 28th December 2024 – The Solidarity Party of Indonesia (PSI) has slammed PDIP’s Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto for invoking founding father Bung Karno’s name amidst corruption allegations. PSI chairman Cheryl Tanzil opined that linking Bung Karno’s name to the current case against Hasto is an overreach.

"I respect the KPK’s decision in naming Hasto Kristiyanto as a suspect. However, using Bung Karno’s name in this context is uncalled for and inappropriate," Cheryl stated. "Bung Karno was once arrested for defending the nation against colonial powers. Today’s case, however, involves alleged bribery with a member of the KPU, Wahyu Setiawan."

Cheryl emphasized that the party respects the ongoing legal process and encourages the public to do the same while waiting for the case’s outcome. She also reminded that the principle of innocent until proven guilty should be upheld.

PDIP Stands by Hasto, Compares Him to Bung Karno

PDIP, through its spokesperson Guntur Romli, stood by Hasto Kristiyanto. Romli clarified that Hasto was not equating himself to Bung Karno but rather emphasizing the importance of fighting against injustice, much like Bung Karno did in his time.

"Not only in the resistance against colonizers, but Bung Karno also stood firm against corruption and nepotism. We believe Hasto is merely following Bung Karno’s footsteps in standing against injustice," Romli added.

Hasto’s Role in the Alleged Corruption Cases

The KPK allele that Hasto played a significant role in two corruption cases involving Harun Masiku, a politician linked to PDIP. The first case involves Hasto allegedly influencing the placement of Harun Masiku in a parliamentary district for the 2019 legislative elections. This led to Wahyu Setiawan, a KPU commissioner, facilitating Harun Masiku’s candidacy.

Hasto was also suspected of obstructing justice when the KPK was attempting to apprehend Harun Masiku in early 2020.

PDI Perjuangan Defends Former Sekjen Hasto Kristiyanto Amidst Corruption Case

In a recent turn of events, Jokowi's Stance on the 12% PPN Tax Bill"</strong></p>”>Guntur Romli, the Spokesperson (Jubir) of PDI Perjuangan, has come out in support of former Sekjen PDIP Hasto Kristiyanto, who has been named a suspect in a corruption case by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). Romli dismissed suggestions that Hasto’s mention of the three-period debate while facing corruption allegations was a panicked move, instead attributing it to the influence of the current presidential administration.

"Using the Javanese phrase ‘nabok nilih tangan,’ Hasto was accused using someone else’s hand. The leadership of KPK today was selected and chosen during whose era? The high-ranking officials, especially the enforcers of the law, who chose and appointed them? The influence of Jokowi is still very strong," Romli stated on Friday (27/12/2024).

Hasto, following his nomination as a suspect, has recently been in the spotlight for touching on the three-period debate, suggesting that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) indeed aims for a third consecutive term. Romli, however, believes that the current administration still bears the influence of the previous Jokowi era.

"Presidents change, but ‘Jokowi’s people’ remain in power. Hasto possesses a number of videos relevant to the three-period issue and plans to release them," Romli added.

Interestingly, Hasto is also alleged to have video evidence of significant impact, including claims of orchestrated attempts to criminalize former DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan. Guntur expects these revelations to cause a magnitude of scandal comparable to the Watergate case in the United States.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Jokowi Mania (Joman), Immanuel Ebenezer (Noel), responded to Hasto’s previous statements regarding the three-period debate. Noel believes Hasto’s comments were a result of panic following his nomination as a suspect.

"The issue of a third period is over, and we’ve already made it clear that we reject the idea. It’s not just Hasto; we’re all against it," Noel told reporters. "Hasto’s comments might have been caused by panic because he suddenly became a suspect."

Noel also emphasized that the election has already taken place, making the issue of a third term irrelevant. Moreover, President Joko Widodo has reportedly distanced himself from the three-period notion, attributing such claims to political groups seeking attention.

"Megawati’s Second Shot: Bintang Puspayoga Discusses Opportunities for PDIP Leadership"

Headline:
PDIP‘s Congress in 2025: Megawati’s Return as Chairperson a Big Possibility, Says Bintang

Subhead:
Party plans democratic process for determining new leadership, dismisses corruption case impact.

Article:

In the heart of Bali, at the cantonment of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), whispers of the 2025 Congress have begun to echo. The possibility of Indonesia’s "Iron Lady," Megawati Soekarnoputri, returning as the party’s Chairperson has sparked keen interest, with many expecting a democratic and inclusive process.

Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati, better known as Bintang Puspayoga and currently heading the Women and Child Division of the Preparatory Committee for PDIP’s Congress (DPP), has hinted at the likelihood of Megawati’s re-election. "PDIP is a very democratic party," she said, detailing the bottom-up nomination process that begins with the grassroots and ascends through regional and provincial branches before reaching the Party Congress Assembly (MPC). "The opportunity and chance for a woman to lead PDIP is very open," Bintang, a former Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, assertively stated.

While Bintang emphasized Megawati’s potential return, she refrained from commenting further on other potential candidates. "That’s still in process," she said, emphasizing the internal nature of the party’s leadership determination.

PDIP, however, faces challenges ahead of the historic Congress. Recently, its Secretary-General, Hasto Kristiyanto, was named a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in connection with the Harun Masiku bribery case. Bintang, nonetheless, remains confident that this development will not impact the congress. "It doesn’t seem so," she said, attributing the matter to a different realm of concern.

Previously, Megawati has hinted at attempts to disrupt the upcoming party congress. Speaking at a book launch event in Jakarta, she mentioned that certain parties wished to impede the PDIP Congress but that her party’s members still desired her leadership. Initially expressing a willingness to retire, Megawati later explained, "If it’s still like this, and the members still want it, then I must continue [as the chairperson]."

As PDIP looks ahead to its 2025 Congress, the possibility of Megawati’s return looms large, fueled by the party’s democratic spirit and the widespread support of her membership. Despite recent challenges, PDIP remains steadfast in its preparations for another pivotal moment in its history.

KPK Responds to PDIP‘s Hasto Kristiyanto: Compliance Expected from Party Leaders

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has responded to Sekjen PDIP Hasto Kristiyanto’s statement, wherein he asserted that he would comply with the law following his designation as a suspect. KPK chief Tessa Mahardhika commented that Hasto’s response is in line with his role as a senior party member.

"I believe that is an ideal response from him, as the secretary general of one of the largest parties in Indonesia," Tessa said at the KPK offices in Jakarta on Friday (27/12/2024).

Tessa added that Hasto’s actions should set an example for others involved in similar cases. "It could set a precedent for other parties involved in corruption cases to cooperate and comply with the law," he said.

The KPK is confident that Hasto will not interference with the investigation process. "If he were to do so, it would contradict his previous statement claiming he would comply with the law," Tessa said.

Previously, Hasto Kristiyanto spoke out after being named a suspect in a case involving alleged bribery related to the replacement of the RKU of former KPU Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan. Hasto stated that PDIP would respect the KPK’s decision, emphasizing the party’s commitment to the rule of law.

"PDIP is a party that upholds the supremacy of the law. I have consistently criticized the suppression of democracy, the silencing of the people’s voice, and the oppression of the people by authoritarian power," Hasto said in a video statement received on Thursday (26/12).

Hasto also expressed his understanding of the potential risks he would face. "I understand the various risks that I may face," he said.

Jokowi’s Response to Hasto’s Involvement in KPK Case

Headline: Jokowi Responds to KPK‘s Appointment of PDIP‘s Hasto as Suspect in Corruption Case

Subhead: PDIP Alleges Political Motivation Behind Hasto’s Status; KPK Reveals His Role in Harun Masiku‘s PAW Case

Article:

In the aftermath of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) naming Hasto Kristiyanto, Secretary General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), as a suspect in a corruption case, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has responded, KPK has disclosed Hasto’s role, and PDIP has expressed suspicions of political motives.

PDIP Alleges Political Motivation

PDIP, in a press conference, suggested that the KPK’s move to name Hasto a suspect was politically motivated, indicating that it was related to Hasto’s vocal opposition to Jokowi towards the end of his tenure. Ronny Talapessy, Chairman of PDIP’s Central Leadership Board (DPP),":

"We believe that the accusation of obstruction of justice is purely a technical and legal formality. The real reason behind making DPP PDIP’s Secretary General a suspect is political."

He further elaborated that Hasto’s strong stance against attempts to undermine democracy and the constitution, particularly towards the end of Jokowi’s presidency, could be a factor.

  • "In particular, because the Secretary General of PDIP firmly stated the party’s political stance, opposing efforts that could damage democracy, the constitution, and also against arbitrariness and abuse of power at the end of the tenure of the former President."

Jokowi’s Response

Jokowi, now a private citizen after leaving office, maintained a relaxed demeanor when asked about the issue. He simply stated that he was no longer in office and wished all parties to respect the ongoing legal process.

"(No issue with my name being brought up in this case) … He-he …, I’m already retired, a pensioner," Jokowi said at Graha Saba Buana in Solo. (detikJateng, 25/12)

He also urged everyone to respect the legal process.

"Yes, respect the entire judicial process that is ongoing," he said.

KPK Unveils Hasto’s Role

KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto clarified Hasto’s role in the bribery case involving the replacement of time (PAW) of Harun Masiku. Hasto, along with Masiku and their associates, allegedly bribed Wahyu Setiawan and Agus Setiani.

"Mr. HK’s actions, together with Mr. HM and friends, were to place Mr. HM in the electoral list for South Sumatra even though he is originally from South Sulawesi, specifically from Toraja," Setyo explained.

In the 2019 legislative elections, Masiku received 5,878 votes, far fewer than PDIP’s Rizky Aprilia, who secured 44,402 votes and was expected to replace the late PDIP legislator Nazaruddin Kiemas.

The KPK head added that Hasto actively tried to prevent Rizky from becoming a legislator, taking several steps to ensure Masiku replaced Kiemas.

Indonesia’s KPK probes continue abroad: Yasonna Laoly following Hasto’s footsteps

Headline: KPK Bars Former Minister Laoly, PDIP Secretary-General Hasto from Leaving Indonesia in Graft Probe

Article:

Jakarta, Dec 25 (idn/knv) – Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has prohibited former Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Hamonangan Laoly (YHL) and PDIP Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto from leaving the country. The restriction, effective from Dec 24, is part of an ongoing probe into an alleged bribery case involving suspect Harun Masiku.

KPK spokesman Tessa Mahardhika confirmed the travel ban, valid for six months, stating, "The restriction is in relation to the investigation of corruption allegation." KPK requires their cooperation and statements to progress with the investigation.

Prior to this, YHL served as a witness in the case, where KPK scrutinized documents pertaining to a request for a fatwa from the Supreme Court regarding different interpretations of the General Election Commission’s (KPU’s) stance on votes cast for deceased candidates.

YHL admitted that he was cross-examined over a letter he had sent to the Supreme Court requesting a fatwa. "We asked for a fatwa because there was a difference in interpretation between the KPU and the PDIP’s central board about the vote of candidates who died," he explained.

YHL also addressed KPK’s questions regarding his prior ministerial post and his role in permitting Harun Masiku’s activities during his tenure. The former minister stated that KPK had questioned him in his capacity as both PDIP’s legal affairs chief and Minister of Law and Human Rights regarding the matter.

This developing story will be updated as more information becomes available.

PDIP Endorses KPK’s Decision to Name Jokowi a Suspect, Urges Respect for Legal Process

President Jokowi Reacts to PDIP Secretary-General’s Status as Suspect in Graft Case

In a recent development, Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi (KPK) has named PDIP Secretary-General, Hasto Kristiyanto, as a suspect in a corruption case involving former KPU commissioner, Wahyu Setiawan. While no longer in office, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has found himself entangled in the case, with his name still being mentioned in relation to Hasto’s status.

"I respect the ongoing legal process," said Jokowi during an event at the Graha Saba Buana building in Solo, Central Java, on Wednesday (25/12/2024). When asked about his name being connected to the case, Jokowi responded calmly, stating that he is no longer in office.

KPK announced Hasto as a suspect in the case involving alleged bribery of Wahyu Setiawan during a press conference at their headquarters in South Jakarta on Tuesday (24/12). KPK chairman Setyo Budiyanto explained that Hasto played a role in placing Harun Masiku in the South Sumatra I electoral district and attempting to secure his position in the DPR via a Patent of Appointment (PAW). Hasto even reportedly hindered Riezky Aprilia’s planned installation as an MP by withholding her invitation letter.

The DPP PDI-P’s deputy chairman, Rony Talapessy, has suggested that Hasto’s naming as a suspect is politically motivated. He stated that the true reason behind Hasto’s involvement is his party’s stance against attempts to undermine democracy and the constitution, as well as abuse of power during the final stages of Jokowi’s presidency.

Although no longer in office, Jokowi maintains that he has no issue with his name being linked to the case. "It’s fine if my name is involved in this case," he said, emphasizing that he is retired now.

Understanding KPK’s Role: Hasto Kristiyanto’s Part in the Harun Masiku Case

Breaking News: PDIP‘S Hasto Kristiyanto Named Suspect in Harun Masiku Case by KPK

Jakarta, DetikNews, Dec 25th, 2024 – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has officially named Secretary General of the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Hasto Kristiyanto, as a suspect in the Harun Masiku case. Hasto is alleged to be involved in two cases: bribery related to the electoral term swap (PAW) of Harun Masiku, and obstruction of justice in the KPK’s attempt to arrest Harun Masiku.

Background

The KPK has successfully convicted three individuals in the PAW Harun Masiku bribery case. They are former KPU commissioner Wahyu Setiawan, and two of his aides, Agustiani Tio and Saeful Bahri. Wahyu was sentenced to 7 years in prison and is currently serving time in a Semarang jail. Meanwhile, Harun Masiku, who has been at large for five years, remains unidentified.

Hasto’s Role in the Cases

KPK chairman Setyo Budiyanto officially announced Hasto’s status as a suspect at the KPK headquarters in Jakarta on Dec 24th, 2024. Setyo revealed Hasto’s critical role in the two cases. Here are the details:

1. Hasto Attempted to Elect Harun as DPR Member

Hasto’s alleged involvement began when he changed Harun’s electoral district from his home region of South Sulawesi to Dapil 1 South Sumatra for the 2019 legislative elections. "Hasto worked with Harun and others to bribe Wahyu Setiawan and Agustiani Tio. Hasto moved Harun from his home district of South Sulawesi to Dapil 1 South Sumatra," said Setyo.

Harun received 5,878 votes, significantly fewer than PDIP’s Rizky Aprilia who secured 44,402 votes. Rizky was expected to replace the late PDIP member Nazaruddin Kiemas. Setyo believes Hasto attempted to prevent Rizky from winning, even trying to persuade Rizky to withdraw and endorse Harun. After these efforts failed, Hasto allegedly bribed Wahyu Setiawan.

2. Hasto Met Wahyu Setiawan

Hasto reportedly met with Wahyu Setiawan in August 2019 to discuss two proposals made by Hasto.

The KPK’s investigation is ongoing. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

Unraveling the Role of PDIP’s Secretary General in the Harun Masiku Case: KPK’s Revelations

Breaking: KPK Names PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto as Suspect in PAW Harun Masiku Vote-Buying Scandal

In a major development, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has officially named Secretary General of the PDIP, Hasto Kristiyanto, as a suspect in the vote-buying case involving the parliamentary seat (PAW) of Harun Masiku.

KPK Chairman, Setyo Budiyanto, detailed Hasto’s crucial role in the scam during a press conference at the KPK headquarters in South Jakarta on Tuesday (24/2/2024). "Hasto, along with Harun Masiku and their accomplices, gave bribes to Wahyu Setiawan and Agus Setiani. First, Hasto placed Harun Masiku on the PDIP electoral list for South Sumatra, despite him originating from South Sulawesi’s Toraja region," Setyo explained.

During the 2019 legislative elections, Harun Masiku received 5,878 votes, significantly fewer than fellow PDIP candidate Rizky Aprilia, who garnered 44,402 votes. In that scenario, Rizky was expected to replace the late PDIP legislator Nazarudin Kiemas.

KPK alleges that Hasto actively worked to obstruct Rizky’s election as a PDIP legislator. He took several steps to prevent Nazarudin’s seat from being filled by Rizky, attempting to replace her with Harun Masiku.

"Hasto parallely tried to convince Rizky to step down, allowing Harun to take her place. However, Rizky refused," Setyo clarified.

The commission also found evidence suggesting Hasto asked Saeful Bahri to meet Rizky in Singapore to convince her to resign. This effort, too, proved unsuccessful.

Unable to secure Rizky’s resignation, Hasto reportedly resorted to bribery, offering money to then-KPU Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan.

"Hasto worked with Harun Masiku, Saeful Bahri, and DTI in bribing Wahyu Setiawan and Agustinus Tiu," Setyo concluded.

KPK Adds PDIP‘s Hasto Kristiyanto as Suspect in Vote Buying Case Linked to Harun Masiku

JAKARTA – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Secretary General of PDIP, Hasto Kristiyanto, as a suspect in a vote-buying case involving the replacement of a PDIP legislator. This case is connected to Harun Masiku, a PDIP legislator who remains at large.

The case traced back to the KPK’s sting operation on January 8, 2020, wherein commissioners of the General Elections Commission (KPU), Wahyu Setiawan and Rahmat Tonidaya, were apprehended at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Wahyu was alleged to have accepted bribes from Harun Masiku to facilitate his replacement of the late Nazarudin Kiemas, a PDIP legislator.

During the operation, eight individuals were arrested from various locations across Jakarta and Central Java. These include Agustiani Tio Feidelina (ATF), a former Bawaslu member, who was found with SGD 400 million, Saeful, a private individual, and his driver Ilham, lawyer Doni, and two of Wahyu’s family members, Ika Indayani and Wahyu Budiani.

Despite intensive efforts, Harun Masiku remained at large. His last known whereabouts were near the Police Science University, but attempts to capture him were unsuccessful. Subsequently, KPK added Harun to its wanted list, designating him as an active fugitive since January 17, 2020. Harun is being sought for his suspected involvement in the bribery of a public official.
