President Prabowo Subianto, in his remarks at the 2024 National Christmas Celebration in Jakarta, shared his personal connection to the holiday, highlighting Indonesia’s pluralistic society. Speaking at the Indonesia Arena GBK, he emphasized the tradition of Christmas as a time for family reunions, a sentiment he understands deeply as he was raised by a Christian mother.

"I understand the significance of this tradition because many in my family are Christian, and my mother was as well," Prabowo shared.

Prabowo, who was sworn in as Indonesia’s president, describes himself as a living testament to the Pancasila family. He calls for tolerance and unity among the diverse religious communities in Indonesia.

"This is perhaps a manifestation of the Pancasila family," said Prabowo.

He fondly recalled his parents’ Differences, "My parents might have had disagreements, but they never had a problem because of religion. The fact that they raised a son who became the President of the Republic of Indonesia is proof of that."

On the occasion of Christmas, President Prabowo extended warm greetings to Christians across Indonesia. He noted that the country’s diverse cultural and religious landscape enriches its national identity.

"Today, we celebrate Christmas as part of our lives, as part of our identity. We are a nation that celebrates our diversity, our differences, and our unity. We are one united nation with different beliefs, yet we share the same desire to live peacefully together," he concluded.

VP Gibran Rakabuming Raka Attends National Christmas Celebration in Jakarta

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia — Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, arrived at the location of the national Christmas celebration and commemoration, Indonesia Arena, in the GBK complex, Senayan, on Saturday (28/12).

Gibran arrived around 17:30 WIB, accompanied by Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasarudin Umar. Both were dressed in brown batik outfits. The eldest son of President Joko Widodo took the time to greet the congregation in the tribune area, not just for photos, but also to chat and engage with them.

However, until Gibran’s arrival, President Prabowo Subianto had not been seen at the location. The president is scheduled to attend and give a speech.

The peak of the national Christmas celebration is expected to be attended by around 11,000 worshippers on Saturday night. Secretary-General of the National Christmas Commemoration 2024, Chief Commissioner Albertus Rachmad Wibowo, said that the Indonesia Arena’s capacity could reach 15,000, but it was reduced due to the use of the main stage for comfort.

"Indonesia Arena’s capacity can reach 15,000. But because we’re using the stage to ensure comfort, we’ve limited the number of attendees to 11,000," Rachmad said during a press conference ahead of the National Christmas event on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the National Christmas Commemoration, Thomas Djiwandono, said that the event would not only be attended by the president and vice president, but also by several ministers from the Merah Putih Cabinet.

Hashim Reveals: UAE Plans to Build 7 Million Homes in Indonesia

written by Chief Editor

Qatar and UAE Pledge Billions for Indonesia‘s 3 Million Homes Program

Jakarta, Dec 27 (abr/zlf)

The head of the Task Force (Satgas) for the Housing Program named after Hashim Djojohadikusumo revealed today that two nations are ready to fund Indonesia’s ambitious ‘3 Million Homes’ project. Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have pledged significant support to boost housing development in the country.

Hashim Djojohadikusumo, the Task Force’s chairman, stated that Qatar has expressed interest in funding 6 million housing units, while the Abu Dhabi government, the UAE capital, is prepared to support 1 million units. This promising development, coupled with ongoing efforts from the central and Jakarta provincial governments, fuels optimism in achieving the goal of building 15 million houses in President Prabowo Subianto‘s current tenure.

"The president himself informed me that the Qatari government is ready to fund 5 million housing units," Hashim shared, adding, "Moreover, a Qatar-based philanthropist plans to contribute to 1 million units, and the Abu Dhabi government has agreed to support 1 million units."

In October, Hashim also mentioned that a major Chinese construction firm, China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), has shown interest in participating by building up to 1 million urban housing units. Hashim underscored that CSCEC, with 380,000 employees and ranked 14th in the Fortune 500 list, had already constructed 880,000 apartment units last year alone.

While Hashim welcomes foreign investment, he also emphasizes distributing project opportunities across multiple national and international contractors. "Spread the wealth, encourage competition," he said, encouraging companies from various countries, including China, Turkey, and the GCC nations, to participate in the housing program.

As the ‘3 Million Homes’ program gains traction with foreign backing, Indonesia takes a significant step towards providing affordable and dignified housing for its citizens.

High-Speed Train Plans: En route to Surabaya

written by Chief Editor

In a recent development, Jakarta is abuzz with discussions surrounding the future of the Jakarta-Surabaya High-Speed Rail (HSR) project, with the fresh leadership of the Ministry of Coordinating Affairs for Infrastructure and Regional Development. Minister Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) shed some light on the project’s prospects under the new administration of President Prabowo Subianto.

A Cautious Approach

AHY emphasized the need for careful planning and thorough consideration before proceeding with the massive undertaking. "We’re still doing our calculations, still studying," he said. "Given the scale of the project, we need to be precise and thorough in our calculations," AHY added, speaking from Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport in Jakarta.

Engaging Stakeholders

In line with this cautious approach, AHY also revealed plans to involve numerous stakeholders in the project’s planning phase. This inclusive strategy aims to ensure a well-thought-out and robust blueprint for the Jakarta-Surabaya HSR project.

Status of the Project

Meanwhile, Dwiyana Slamet Riyadi, Director of PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC), the company responsible for the project, stated that currently, the Indonesian high-speed rail project remains in the pre-study phase. "We’re still in the pre-study phase. Everything is currently being discussed among all stakeholders," said Dwiyana when contacted separately.

A Brief History

Initially mooted during the administration of President Joko Widodo, the Jakarta-Surabaya HSR project has seen its fair share of ups and downs. Earlier this year, KCIC hinted at plans for gradually extending Jakarta’s high-speed rail network to include Surabaya, potentially starting with a connection to Yogyakarta first. However, under the new administration of President Prabowo, the project’s future remains uncertain.

Wakil Menteri Perhubungan (Wamenhub), Suntana, had previously hinted that the feasibility study for the project was ongoing. He emphasized the importance of thorough evaluation, stating, "The principle is, if it makes transportation more accessible, cheaper, and comfortable, why not? But of course, we can’t just proceed without proper evaluation."

Looking ahead, the future of the Jakarta-Surabaya High-Speed Rail project hangs in the balance, awaiting the outcome of ongoing feasibility studies. presidency’s stance on massive projects, and commitments to public welfare, will all play a crucial role in shaping the project’s future.

PDIP Secretary-General, Hasto Kristiyanto, Detained in Connection with Harun Masiku Case

written by Chief Editor

KPK Names PDIP Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto as Suspect in Bribery Case

In a significant development, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Secretary-General of the Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Hasto Kristiyanto, as a suspect in a bribery case. The development comes after the swearing-in of KPK’s new leadership headed by Chairman Muhammad Syafrudin earlier this month.

According to a detikcom source, the KPK’s Letter of Investigation (Sprindik) against Hasto, numbered Sprin.Dik/153/DIK.00/01/12/2024, was issued on December 23, 2024. Hasto’s designation as a suspect follows an exam on December 20, 2024.

Hasto is accused of bribing Wahyu Setiawan, a former commissioner of the General Elections Commission (KPU), in a bid to secure a seat in the People’s Representative Council (DPR) for PDIP candidate Harun Masiku through an interim period (PAW). Masiku, who is already a suspect in the same case, remains at large. Other suspects include Agustiani Tio, a trustee of Wahyu, and Saeful Bahri, a private citizen.

Wahyu and Agustiani have previously been sentenced to seven and four years in prison, respectively, while Saeful received an eight-month prison sentence. They were found to have received SGD 19,000 and 38,350 (around IDR 600 million) from Masiku through Saeful to facilitate his DPR appointment.

KPK has been trying to locate Masiku since August, and has also questioned Hasto regarding Masiku’s case earlier this year.

In a related development, PDIP spokesman Chico Hakim has accused political parties of attempting to disrupt and undermine PDIP’s influence. He contends that there is political interference in the legal process.

"KPK’s investigation against Hasto is evidence of political maneuvering to discredit PDIP. This isn’t the first instance of similar moves against other political parties," Chico told media outlets. He added that PDIP is steadfast in facing these challenges, viewing them as a source of energy and determination.

Hasto’s designation as a suspect remains a developing story, with PDIP yet to provide a formal response.

Title: Prominent Figures Attend Golkar’s 60th Anniversary Celebration: Jusuf Kalla and Agung Laksono Join the Festivities

Introduction

The Golongan Karya (Golkar) party recently celebrated its 60th anniversary, a significant milestone in Indonesia’s political landscape. The event, held on November 25, 2021, was graced by the presence of several prominent figures, including former Vice President Jusuf Kalla and prominent politician Agung Laksono. Their attendance underscored the importance of the occasion and highlighted the party’s enduring influence in Indonesian politics.

Golkar’s 60th Anniversary Celebration

Golkar, one of Indonesia’s oldest and most influential political parties, was founded on November 25, 1961, initially as a political organization for employees of state-owned enterprises. Over the years, it has evolved into a major political force, playing a crucial role in Indonesia’s democratic transition and subsequent development.

The 60th anniversary celebration was a grand affair, attended by numerous high-profile guests, including former and current political figures, business leaders, and other influential members of Indonesian society. The event was held under strict health protocols, adhering to Indonesia’s COVID-19 guidelines, to ensure the safety of all attendees.

Jusuf Kalla’s Presence

Former Vice President Jusuf Kalla was among the distinguished guests at the celebration. Kalla, who served under President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono from 2004 to 2009, is a senior figure in Golkar. His presence at the anniversary event was a testament to his ongoing commitment to the party and its ideals.

Kalla took the opportunity to reflect on Golkar’s history and its significance in Indonesia’s political development. He praised the party’s role in fostering democratic values and encouraging political pluralism in the country. Kalla also expressed his hope that Golkar would continue to play a constructive role in Indonesia’s political landscape, contributing to the country’s progress and development.

Agung Laksono Joins the Celebration

Another prominent figure who attended the Golkar anniversary celebration was Agung Laksono, a veteran politician and former speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR). Laksono, who is also a Golkar party member, was instrumental in Indonesia’s democratic transition in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Laksono’s attendance at the event was a nod to his longstanding relationship with Golkar and his enduring commitment to the party’s principles. Like Kalla, Laksono also took the opportunity to reflect on Golkar’s history and its role in Indonesia’s political journey. He emphasized the importance of upholding democratic values and fostering political pluralism, echoing Golkar’s long-standing commitment to these principles.

Conclusion

The attendance of Jusuf Kalla and Agung Laksono at Golkar’s 60th anniversary celebration was a clear indication of the party’s enduring influence and relevance in Indonesian politics. Their presence and comments underscored Golkar’s historical role in fostering democratic values and encouraging political pluralism in the country. As Golkar looks ahead to the future, the presence of these prominent figures serves as a reminder of the party’s rich history and its ongoing commitment to Indonesia’s progress and development.
