Singapore’s Most Powerful Passport in 2025: Where Does Indonesia Rank?

by Chief Editor January 9, 2025
written by Chief Editor

Headline: Singapore Tops Henley Passport Index 2025; Indonesia Stands Steady

Article:

In a testament to global mobility, Singapore has emerged as the world’s most powerful passport in the Henley Passport Index 2025, securing visa-free access to a remarkable 195 destinations. Meanwhile, Indonesia maintains its position, albeit outside the top 100.

Singapore’s ‘passport power’ has been bolstered by its ability to travel visa-free to more countries than any other nationality. Its residents enjoy unfettered access to over four-fifths of the world’s destinations, reflecting the city-state’s robust diplomatic relations and economic clout.

Climbing to the second spot is Japan, which has regained visa-free access to China, its neighbors. Released in its 20th year, the Henley Passport Index tracks global mobility, drawing on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and covering 227 destinations.

Indonesia’s Steady Hold

Indonesia’s passport ranking has fluctuated modestly over the past two decades, but it has yet to break into the top 100. Here’s a snapshot of Indonesia’s standing since 2006:

  • 2006: 67th
  • 2010: 84th
  • 2013: 73rd
  • 2016: 79th
  • 2020: 71st
  • 2024: 66th (with 78 visa-free destinations)
  • 2025: 66th (with 76 visa-free destinations)

The Global Landscape

Other top scorers this year include Japan (193 destinations), and the Schengen Area countries like France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Finland, and South Korea (192 destinations). Rounding out the top ten are nations offering access to at least 185 destinations each.

At the bottom of the ranking, Afghanistan remains the least mobile passport, with access to just 26 destinations. Syria (27) and Iraq (31) follow closely.

The widening gap between countries near the top and bottom of the ranking underscores the growing disparity in global mobility. As Singaporeans and Japanese enjoy access to nearly twice as many destinations as Iraqis or Syrians, the stark contrast illustrates the profound impact of citizenship on global opportunities.

Top 10 Most Powerful Passports in 2025

  1. Singapore (195 destinations)
  2. Japan (193)
  3. France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Finland, South Korea (192)
  4. Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway (191)
  5. Belgium, New Zealand, Portugal, Switzerland, UK (190)
  6. Greece, Australia (189)
  7. Canada, Poland, Malta (188)
  8. Hungary, Czech Republic (187)
  9. Estonia, USA (186)
  10. Lithuania, Latvia, Slovenia, UAE (185)

Metal Detector Unveils Valuable Artifact in Güttingen Carrot Field

by Chief Editor January 8, 2025
written by Chief Editor

Unusual Discovery: Unique Bronze Age Jewelry and Fossils Unearthed in Swiss Field

A detectorist, Franz Zahn, made a remarkable discovery last August in Güttingen, Switzerland. While helping to clean up old iron in a recently plowed carrot field, Zahn unearthed an astonishing collection of Bronze Age jewelry along with fossils of various animals.

The find includes a unique bronze necklace with 14 spiked bronze disc beads, two spiral rings, and over 100 small yellow beads. Each item was carefully extracted from the soil using tweezers. The field also yielded bronze arrowheads, teeth from animals like sharks and bears, crystal rocks, and fossils of ammonites—extinct marine mollusks from prehistoric times.

Zahn promptly reported his discovery to the local archaeological office for further investigation. Archeologists identified the jewelry as "costume jewelry" worn by women around 1500 BCE. The bronze discs, strung together with spiral metal spacers, stand out with their intricate design.

Experts believe these objects held special significance for their users, potentially serving as protective amulets or healing charms. Although no human remains were found, experts suspect the items were originally buried in organic containers that have since decomposed.

This discovery offers insights into the lives of people living during the Bronze Age in this region, building upon the trace of prehistoric settlements from around 1000 BCE previously found in Güttingen.

Uniting East and West: Romania and Bulgaria Break Down Border Barriers for Schengen Zone Integration

Headline:
Rumania and Bulgaria Ditch Border Controls, Join Schengen Area–The World’s Largest Visa-Free Zone”>Schengen Zone on New Year’s Day 2025

European Union members eliminate internal borders, boosting travel freedom

Article:

In a significant stride towards continental unity, Rumania and Bulgaria have officially joined the Schengen Zone as of January 1, 2025. This move abolishes land border controls between these two countries and the rest of the European Union (EU), allowing for unrestricted travel within the zone.

The Schengen Area, which currently encompasses all EU nations except Cyprus and Ireland, facilitates seamless travel among its members by eliminating passport checks at internal borders. While the zone has steadily expanded since its inception, some countries like Germany have temporarily reinstated border controls in recent years.

Last month, the Netherlands implemented border controls for tourists entering from Germany and Belgium. However, this latest development sees Rumania and Bulgaria celebrating their entry into the Schengen Zone, marking a significant milestone in their EU membership journey.

Bulgarian Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev hailed the expansion as a "historic event" while addressing the crowd at Kulata, a border town with Greece. Meanwhile, Rumanian and Bulgarian Interior Ministers Catalin Predoiu and Atanas Ilkov respectively, led a New Year’s Eve ceremony at the Giurgiu-Russe border crossing, marking the removal of the final barriers.

Rumania and Bulgaria joined the EU in 2007 and have met the Schengen criteria since 2010. However, their entry was delayed due to concerns raised by some member states regarding potential migrant influxes and strain on social welfare systems. Austria, in particular, had opposed their entry but lifted its veto in December 2024.

Now, the Schengen Area comprises all EU countries except Cyprus and Ireland, as well as non-EU members Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein. With this expansion, travel between these nations becomes even more convenient, fostering closer ties and cooperation.

Sighted: North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un with Two Children, Supposedly His Daughters

Exclusive: Spy Agency Analyzes Footage of Kim Jong Un‘s Sister, Kim Yo Jong, with Two Children

Subhead:
North Korean leader’s sibling spotted with two young children, sparking speculation about her personal life

Article:

In a rare glimpse into the private life of one of North Korea’s most powerful figures, South Korean intelligence agencies have begun analyzing footage that appears to show Kim Yo Jong, the younger sister of leader Kim Jong Un, with two children.

The undated video, obtained by the Associated Press (AP), captures Kim Yo Jong acompañado by two young children, a boy and a girl, attending a cultural performance in Pyongyang. The brother and sister duo could be seen walking hand in hand, an intimate display unusual for North Korea’s famously closed-off society.

Little is known about Kim Yo Jong’s personal life, with Pyongyang refusing to confirm whether she is married or has children. However, South Korea‘s National Intelligence Service (NIS) has previously hinted at the possibility, stating that they believe she has offspring. The children in the new video fall within the age range estimated by intelligence agencies.

The event attended by Kim Yo Jong is believed to be a performance held as part of the New Year celebrations. While participation in such events is typically expected of senior officials, the public rarely gets to see North Korea’s elite leaders accompanied by their family members, especially children.

Kim Jong Un himself has been seen with a daughter, Ju Ae, in state media releases, but experts caution that these appearances should be viewed with skepticism, citing the regime’s penchant for using such displays as propaganda to "humanize" the leadership.

"These kinds of appearances have been part of a trend since early 2022, showing high-level apparatchiks in Kim’s inner circle attending special events or contributing to disaster relief efforts with family members," said [expert’s name], an analyst with NK News.

Kim Yo Jong, born in 1988, is one of the sons of former leader Kim Jong Il. She studied in Switzerland alongside her brother, and South Korean intelligence first reported in 2015 that she had given birth. She later became pregnant again during a trip to South Korea in 2018 for the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
