Summary
- Moss man (34) found dead in apartment on Christmas Day.
- Murder theory significantly reduced.
- Self-inflicted injuries or accident are now main hypotheses.
- Earlier police visit found no reason to enter the apartment.
Moss police are still uncertain of the cause of death after a 34-year-old man was found dead in his apartment on Christmas Day. The police contradict earlier statements, now believing that a murder is less likely.
It was around 3:30 PM on Wednesday that police responded to the scene and found the man deceased. The police initially described the death as suspicious.
– A resident in the area called us. I cannot elaborate on what they reported, but their call led us to respond and enter the apartment where we found the deceased, police spokesperson Anders Svarholt told VG.
Throughout the night, police have interviewed witnesses and searched the deceased’s apartment.
– We are now developing a timeline of the events, but the cause of death remains unknown, said Svarholt.
Police now believe murder is unlikely:
– There is information received through interviews and evidence found at the scene that leads us to conclude that the murder theory is significantly weakened, said Svarholt.
– What kind of evidence?
– I cannot elaborate on that.

Police are now exploring several hypotheses, including self-inflicted injuries or accidents.
Police have contacted a witness who reported hearing noises and possible fighting from the apartment on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
– It sounded like a party, then it quieted down, then it escalated again, the witness told VG.
On Thursday, police confirmed receiving multiple reports of noise and a party from the same apartment.
– We understand that neighbors found this bothersome and alarming, said Svarholt.
Earlier, police had received reports of noise from the same address, which should have been addressed promptly, police confirmed.
An autopsy of the man will provide more information on how he died.
Next of kin have been informed and are being supported.
