Interim PM Dimitar Glavchev Addresses Ukraine Agreement and Budget 2025 Concerns
In an exclusive press encounter, Interim Premier Dimitar Glavchev assuaged concerns about the Ukraine agreement, expressing confidence in the deal’s duration while acknowledging one potential sticking point. Glavchev, accompanied by Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov, visited the Chaira Power Plant to discuss the controversial topics.
Glavchev asserted, "The agreement with Ukraine in all its aspects is cause for no concern, save for its length – a decade. However, there’s a 1992 Constitutional Court decision that outlines the powers of an interim government during its tenure."
He added, "That’s why I’ve called on the National Assembly to weigh in on the Ukraine agreement."
Budget 2025: Glavchev Weighs In
Glavchev provided insight into the budget process, revealing that initial plans had the National Assembly adopting the budget by December 23. However, political wrangling and debate have led to delays, with the premier expressing disappointment that lawmakers haven’t simply rejected the budget, allowing the government to introduce a new bill extending the previous budget as per the law.
"We’re at an impasse because rejecting the budget is the only way to avoid breaking the law by extending the old one ourselves," Glavchev explained.
Despite expenses being in order, Glavchev admitted that generating sufficient revenue to meet them has been a challenge. He stated that the government has been working to preserve all income streams and has found a solution to cover all commitments without plunging into overspending.
