Headline: No Trace of Missing Down Syndrome Boy, 13, Despite Daylong Search in Konaре Village
Subhead: Mother and Locals Believe 13-Year-Old Nikolai Was Kidnapped, While Police Continue Investigation
Article:
In a worrying turn of events, no trace has been found of 13-year-old Nikolai from Konaре village, despite extensive search efforts by police, gendarmes, and volunteers throughout the day. The boy, who has Down syndrome, has been missing since December 17.
Hope turned to despair today when authorities failed to find any leads despite focusing their efforts on a 2 km radius around the village. Locals and Nikolai’s mother, Danka Iliева, believe the boy was abducted, echoing sentiments expressed since his disappearance.
Today, the family’s dog was found, appearing too clean to have been wandering in the woods during the recent rain. "The dog is too clean. It has been let out, and my son has been taken," Iliева said, according to BTA.
Search efforts are ongoing, with police using tracking dogs and scouring nearby forests and a local dam. Although a water rescue team searched the dam earlier in the week, nothing was found. Authorities are pursuing all leads and keeping an open mind about the case.
Yesterday, a water rescue team searched the dam, but found no trace of the boy. Despite the setbacks, police vow to continue searching until Nikolai is found.
"Nikolai is a trusting child," Iliева said, explaining why he might have gone with a stranger. The boy’s mother described the family’s experience as a "nightmare," expressing her belief that her son was kidnapped.
In a grim development, some locals and members of the search team have begun preparing for an outcome they hope to avoid – finding Nikolai’s body. Despite the somber atmosphere, search efforts remain undeterred, with volunteers and authorities alike vowing to continue the search until Nikolai is found.
The Bulgarian police can be reached at 112 for any information regarding the boy’s whereabouts. Their helpline is open 24/7. Anyone with information should contact local authorities immediately.
