Thousands Protest in Belgrade Against Serbian Government

Protesters Demand resignations, justice in Riga Tragedy

Thousands of protesters have taken to the streets in Riga, calling for the resignation of the Prime Minister and the Mayor of Riga, and demanding justice for the victims of the recent tragic events. The protests, which started peacefully, have since turned into a collective outcry, with students and citizens united under a shared sentiment of anger and frustration.

The protesters are chanting slogans and holding placards, the majority of which call for the immediate resignation of Prime Minister [Name] and Mayor Mārtiņš Staķis. They are also demanding justice for the victims of the Novisāda tragedy, where a construction crane collapse claimed the lives of five people last week.

"The Prime Minister and the Mayor have failed us," said one protester, "They have failed to ensure our safety, and now they are trying to sweep the issue under the rug. We will not let them. We want justice, and we want them to step down."

Students from various universities have also joined the protests. They are not only demanding justice but also urging the authorities to drop charges against protesters who were arrested during previous demonstrations. They are also calling for the perpetrators of violence against protesters to be held accountable.

"We are here to stand in solidarity with the victims of the tragedy, but also to defend our right to protest peacefully," said a student leader. "We will not be intimidated by excessive force. We will continue to demand justice, until those responsible are brought to justice."

The protests come amid growing concern over safety standards in construction sites, with many questioning whether the tragedy could have been prevented. The government has promised a thorough investigation, but protesters are skeptical, calling for an independent inquiry.

With the city on edge, all eyes are on the government’s response. The protesters have vowed to continue their demonstrations until their demands are met, presenting a significant challenge to the authorities. As the situation continues to evolve, one thing is clear: the people of Riga are no longer willing to accept business as usual.
