Former Congresswoman Kay Granger, 81, Found in Senior Care Facility After Six Months Absence
Article:
In a stunning revelation, veteran Republican Congresswoman Kay Granger, aged 81, has been traced to a specialist senior care facility in Dallas, Texas, after going missing for six months. Granger, who last voted in Congress in July, has not participated in debates or votes since, astonishing observers given her party’s razor-thin majority in the House.
Granger did not seek re-election in November, having served since 1997, becoming the first Republican woman to be elected to the House of Representatives from Texas. An investigation by The Dallas Express uncovered her whereabouts after she was found wandering, disoriented, in her neighborhood.
The paper visited Tradition Senior Living, a luxury senior care facility specializing in dementia, where staff confirmed Granger was a resident. "This is her home," said Taylor Manziel, the facility’s associate director. Despite her absence from Capitol Hill, Granger’s team continues to stay in their roles until the new Congress is sworn in on January 3, 2023.
However, not everyone is pleased with the situation. Republican Party officials have criticized the lack of clarity about Granger’s absence. "That she couldn’t leave her residence to vote on one of the year’s most critical bills suggests she was already incapacitated when she ran for re-election in 2022," said Rolando García, a high-ranking party member.
"It’s a sad and humiliating end to her political career… It’s tragic that no one cared enough to step aside before things reached this point," García added, pointing to the issue of gerontocracy in Congress.
