Yogyakarta Student Dies, Family Seeks Justice in Acid Attack That Caused Her Painful Death
In a tragic turn of events, Sosok Belly Villsen, a Yogyakarta-based student, has succumbed to her injuries after being the victim of a horrific acid attack. The 24-year-old, originally from Sleman, was cruelly disfigured and blinded in one eye after her former partner, Otaki, allegedly threw acid on her face in a fit of rage.
Villsen’s family, devastated by their daughter’s demise, is now calling for justice. "She suffered greatly in her final days. We can’t even begin to describe the anguish we’re going through," said her mother, Nyai. The family has faced financial strain as they sought the best medical care for Villsen, incurring debts of over IDR 100 million.
Natasya, another victim of acid violence, can empathize with Villsen’s family. The 20-year-old woman from Bantul was similarly targeted by her former partner, Agung. The attack has left Natasya’s left eye permanently blinded, and she continues to suffer frequent headaches and infections. Her life has turned upside down, with her once-bright future now uncertain.
The string of acid attacks in Yogyakarta has sparked outrage and calls for stricter penalties. Authorities have arrested two suspects—Wahyu and Riska—for allegedly carrying out the attack on Villsen. However, questions remain about whether they acted on their own or were hired by Otaki.
Villsen’s family, with the support of local NGOs, has been campaigning for tougher laws against acid attacks. "We want justice for Sosok. We want those responsible to pay for their actions," said Nyai.
As Yogyakarta grapples with this disturbing trend, the victims’ families hope that stricter penalties and increased awareness will deter potential offenders and bring justice to those who have suffered.
