Three Teens Injured by Exploding Fireworks in Zeeland During New Year’s Eve
MIDDELBURG, ZEELAND – At least three teenagers were seriously injured by exploding fireworks during New Year’s Eve celebrations in Zeeland, according to Yvonne van Mastrigt, the burgemeester of Middelburg and chairperson of the Zeeuwse districtscollege.
A boy was injured in Nieuw- and Sint Joosland after picking up fireworks that did not go off earlier. The fireworks exploded in his face, and he was taken to the hospital. In Krabbendijke, another teen was injured when fireworks exploded.
On New Year’s Day, a teenager in Kamperland was also injured by exploding fireworks. Earlier, the police reported that a 13-year-old boy tried to light a Cobra-6, a powerful firework, at Heerjanszdorp. He was airlifted to a hospital with severe injuries.
Van Mastrigt warns that fireworks are becoming increasingly powerful, and parents are often unaware of the risks. "How long is this still fun?" she asked.
