The ‘Hoy No Circula’ program for Thursday, January 2, 2025, has been reactivated in the Mexico City Metropolitan Area (ZMVM) following the suspension of the Environmental Contingency. Vehicles with green license plate stickers, ending in numerals 1 and 2, and bearing holograms 1 and 2 will be restricted from circulation in the 16 Mexico City boroughs (CDMX) and 18 nearby municipalities in the State of Mexico (Edomex).

The restrictions will apply from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM, impacting drivers with the mentioned plate characteristics and holograms. Similar restrictions will apply in the states of Hidalgo, Morelos, Puebla, and Tlaxcala, provided that their vehicles have valid verification from their respective states.

Sanctions for Non-Compliance:

Those who disobey the ‘Hoy No Circula’ restrictions on January 2, 2025, may face penalties of 20 to 30 times the current Unit of Measurement and Update (UMA). This amounts to approximately MXN 2,074.80 to MXN 3,112.20.

Environmental Contingency and Double ‘Hoy No Circula’ suspension:

On the eve of January 1, 2025, the Megalopolis Environmental Commission (CAMe) implemented Phase 1 of the Environmental Contingency in CDMX and Edomex. Around 6:00 PM, the measure was lifted following a joint decision by the authorities forming the Commission.

CAMe calls upon the public to refrain from using fireworks and setting off firecrackers to avoid a recurrence of environmental contingencies and safeguard the health of the entire population. The ‘Hoy No Circula’ program will continue to function as usual.
