Tragic Accident in Otáez, Durango: Young Man Dies After Machine Mutilation

A 24-year-old man from the city of Durango has lost his life in a horrifying accident while operating forest machinery in Otáez. The victim, identified as Juan Manuel Hernández Santillán, was instantly killed when a metallic cable from the machinery he was operating mutilated him.

The tragic incident occurred last Saturday as Juan Manuel was working on a forested property, located in an area known as "Pajonienta." His father, who was also present at the scene, recounted that the young man was part of the operation to extract wood using a crane. In a fateful moment, the cable extractor unwound from the reel, and Juan Manuel attempted to reposition it. However, the powerful cable ended up trapping him, causing instant amputation of both his arms.

Juan Manuel’s colleagues rushed to assist him, but it was too late. He succumbed to his injuries in an instant, with the subsequent medical support confirming his death. The State Attorney General’s Office took charge of the young man’s remains for the mandatory autopsy, which was later conducted in Santiago Papasquiaro.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident, aiming to prevent such tragic accidents from happening again. Meanwhile, the local community mourns the untimely loss of Juan Manuel Hernández Santillán, a young life cut short in the line of duty.
