Malang Police Chief AKBP Putu Kholis Aryana revealed that the incident took place at KM 77+200A on the Pandaan-Malang Toll Road heading towards Malang. The sequence of events began when a truck carrying animal feed stopped on the side of the road due to mechanical issues. The driver attempted to change the truck’s flat tire but failed to secure it properly, resulting in the truck rolling back uncontrollably.
"Unfortunately, the makeshift tire change was not secure, leading the truck to roll back without control," Aryana stated. "At that moment, a bus from the Tirto Agung company was traveling behind the truck at a considerable speed, leading to an unavoidable collision."
The impact of the collision caused significant damage to both vehicles. The bus sustained severe damage to its front right side, while the truck’s rear left was severely affected. The accident occurred on a cloudy day with no reported rainfall, but road conditions were not optimum due to the overcast weather.
Aryana confirmed that four individuals lost their lives in the accident, including the bus driver. Several other passengers were injured and transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. The deceased and injured passengers are believed to be part of a SMP student trip from Bogor, with the student’s school identified as SMP Islam Terpadu from the Gunung Putri area in Bogor.
