The recent Christmas Eve saw a significant weather change in Bulgaria, with snow and rain causing traffic disruptions across the country. The snowfall started in Western Bulgaria on Monday night, spreading to the central regions. The snowstorm particularly affected the Predбалкан and Western Highlands.

In response to the treacherous conditions, the Road Infrastructure Agency (API) has implemented temporary traffic regulations. A speed restriction of 50 km/h has been imposed on the "Traкия" motorway, particularly around the "Trajanovi Vrata" tunnel. In the direction of Varna, two lanes will be designated for traffic in both the "Topli Dol" and "Pravenski Hanove" tunnels.

Due to the hazardous weather, the Troyan Pass remains closed to all vehicles. Furthermore, the "Prevala" pass in the Smolян region is closed to heavy goods vehicles with trailers and semi-trailers.
