Giuseppe Barbaro, Head of Cardiology and Echocardiography at a Rome Hospital, Condemns Actions of Trieste Hospital

ROME – Dr. Giuseppe Barbaro, the esteemed cardiologist and Ebéchocardiquera, has expressed his outrage at the recent decision of the hospital in Trieste to cancel life-saving heart surgery for an unvaccinated patient. The patient, suffering from severe aortic insufficiency and multiple comorbidities, was refused the operation due to their vaccination status.

Unjustified and Unethical Decision

According to Barbaro, who was interviewed by Il Giornale d’Italia, there are no clinical, scientific, or deontological reasons to support the hospital’s decision. He emphasized that there are no laws or guidelines requiring vaccination before surgery. The action taken by the hospital is merely an expression of ideological scientific bias, disregarding the patient’s life and freedom of choice.

Serious Health Risks

Barbaro explained that aortic insufficiency causes increased blood reflux into the left ventricle, leading to higher diastolic pressure and reduced cardiac output. The combination of severe aortic insufficiency and multiple comorbidities puts the patient at high risk of developing heart failure, which could be fatal. In such cases, timely surgery is the only solution to prevent complications.

Call for Action

Barbaro believes that the hospital and its responsible parties should face legal consequences for allowing such a letter to be sent to patients, potentially endangering their lives. He urges the Ministry of Health and the judiciary to investigate the incident and ensure it is not repeated.

Disregarding Humanity and Deontology

Barbaro questions the low level of humanity displayed in the episode and hopes that similar cases will be prevented in the future. He appeals to the medical association to take a firm stance against the flagrant deontological violations and ensure the respect of the patient’s right to healthcare and the continuity of care, as defined by the Constitution and the Hippocratic Oath.

The ‘No-Vax’ Stigma

Barbaro regrets the use of derogatory terms like ‘no-vax’ to stigmatize people who choose not to vaccinate. He maintains that everyone has the right to make informed decisions about their healthcare and be treated with respect and dignity.
