Truck Driver’s Quick Thinking Prevents Major Crash on N247; Traffic Disruption Ensues
In a narrow escape this morning around 11:00 AM, a truck driver averted a potentially catastrophic collision on the N247 near Oosthuizen. The driver, traveling from Scharwoude towards Oosthuizen, found himself face to face with an oncoming car attempting a risky overtaking maneuver and heading straight for the truck.
To avoid a head-on crash, the truck driver swiftly steered his loaded tractor-trailer combination onto the verge. Unfortunately, the combination ended up in a ditch and became completely lodged.
The incident underscores the driver’s alertness and quick reflexes, as well as those of the transport company, which could have prevented a more severe outcome.
The aftermath left a significant impact on traffic. Both the N247 between Scharwoude and Oosthuizen and the parallel road were shut down to allow salvaging operations to safely remove the combination from the ditch, with work still in progress.
