Trump‘s Envoy Hopes to Resolve Russia-Ukraine Conflict within 100 Days

WASHINGTON – A special envoy for President-elect Donald Trump has expressed hope to mediate and resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict within the first 100 days of his administration, starting from the Inauguration Day on January 20.

"I know I’m going to be busy," said Retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg, a special envoy for the Trump transition team, to Fox News on Wednesday (1/8/2025). "But I want to set a personal and professional goal. Let’s say we aim to achieve this in 100 days and take a step back."

Kellogg emphasized that Trump remains committed to restarting negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to find a solution to the conflict, which has claimed a significant number of lives on both sides.

"He’s not trying to give anything to Putin or Russia. He’s actually trying to save Ukraine and their sovereignty. And he will ensure it’s fair and equal," Kellogg asserted.

Criticizing President Joe Biden‘s approach, Kellogg argued, "The biggest mistake President Biden made was that he never had any conversation with Putin."

"For more than two years, he didn’t talk to him," Kellogg added, highlighting Trump’s history of talking with adversaries and allies.

Trump has repeatedly promised to broker a successful peace deal but has not provided many specific details. Reports suggest his team is considering freezing the conflict along its current lines.

Negotiations between Moscow and Kiev broke down in spring 2022, with both sides accusing each other of making unrealistic demands. Putin has insisted that any successful resolution would require Ukraine to abandon its NATO aspirations, recognize Russia’s annexation of Crimea, and abandon claims to four Ukrainian territories that were absorbed by Russia.
