Trump Welcomes Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at Mar-a-Lago
CNN — In a notable diplomatic meeting, President-elect Donald Trump hosted Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at his Florida resort, Mar-a-Lago, on Saturday. The visit, which made headlines on Trump’s X profile, marks Meloni’s first official meeting with the former U.S. president since taking office in October 2022.
The right-wing Italian leader, who chairs the Brothers of Italy party, is set for another high-level U.S. meeting later this week. Prime Minister Meloni will also sit down with President Joe Biden during his trip to Rome.
Saturday’s gathering in Palm Beach included notable Republican lawmakers. Trump and Meloni were accompanied by Senator Marco Rubio, the GOP’s Senate nominee for Florida, and Representative Mike Waltz, who recently won re-election in Florida’s 6th district. Waltz is slated to become the next national security advisor. This meeting follows Meloni’s dinner with Trump and tech tycoon Elon Musk in Paris last month, during the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral.
