President Donald Trump predicted on November 5, 2026, that an imminent deal with Russia would cover Ukraine and potentially all of Europe, following a White House event hosted by First Lady Melania Trump that brought together representatives from both warring nations.
White House Event Recognizes Oleshky Ceasefire
The diplomatic gathering at the White House marked a six-day local ceasefire in the besieged southern Ukrainian city of Oleshky, which ran from October 27 to November 1. As reported by SCMP, the temporary truce was the most significant local cessation of hostilities since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022.
The city of Oleshky in the southern Kherson region had been described as besieged and starvation-hit.

Arab News noted that the Oleshky arrangement allowed for a humanitarian evacuation and support, with Mrs. Trump indicating 800 were impacted by the ceasefire.
Davyd Arakhamia, Dmytro Lubinets and Yana Lantratova joined her at the event, where Mrs. Trump commended the representatives by stating they had chosen humanity over war.

Trump Hints at Wider European Security Framework
Following the event, President Trump confirmed to reporters that he held an unscheduled private meeting with Dmitriev. While declining to provide details of that discussion, Trump projected that a major diplomatic agreement was approaching.
There’s going to be an agreement, it’s going to be a big agreement and it’s going to involve more than Ukraine,
Trump told reporters, adding that the framework might encompass all of Europe. He further described it as a big, beautiful agreement where everyone is going to be thrilled, while also noting that he did not meet with the Ukrainian delegation on Thursday.

Simultaneously, a US delegation participated in separate security discussions at NATO headquarters in Brussels. Jared Kushner, a US representative at the Brussels talks, described those sessions as productive and substantive.
Upcoming Trilateral Peace Talks Scheduled in Abu Dhabi
The diplomatic push leads directly into scheduled three-way peace talks in Abu Dhabi, UAE, involving Russia, Ukraine, and the United States, set for November 10 to 11.

During Thursday’s White House proceedings, Melania Trump presented representatives with handwritten letters to give hope for the two nations that have been at war since 2022, stating that together they can create something more enduring than a temporary ceasefire. In return, Dmitriev handed her a painting created by an 11-year-old girl, and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sent a Ukrainian award recognizing her role in securing the ceasefire.
