JetBlue Find Two Bodies in Wheel Well of Plane in Florida
zwei.asia — Two bodies have been discovered in the wheel well of a JetBlue plane that landed at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, the airline confirmed on Tuesday. The grisly find during a post-flight inspection has left authorities investigating the circumstances that led to the individuals gaining access to the aircraft.
The bodies were found Monday night, with their identities yet to be disclosed by JetBlue. The airline, operating flight 1801 from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, touched down in Fort Lauderdale at 11:10 p.m., according to flight tracking site FlightAware.
This troubling incident follows a similar discovery just two weeks ago, where a corpse was found in the wheel well of a United Airlines flight from Chicago to Maui. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reports that the wheel well compartment is often used by stowaways who underestimate the limited space available once the landing gear is retracted. Many such stowaways either suffocate or succumb to low temperatures at cruising altitude.
Recent incidents involving stowaways have raised serious concerns about airport security during the busy holiday travel season. Just last November, a woman managed to board a Delta Air Lines flight from New York’s JFK to Paris without a ticket, before being arrested. Weeks later, a stowaway hid in a Delta flight departing from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, only to be found en route to Honolulu.
