U.S. to Prepare $500 Million Military Aid Package for Ukraine

U.S. Set to Provide Additional $500 Million in Military Aid to Ukraine

The United States is expected to announce a new military aid package worth $500 million for Ukraine, according to BTA. This swift drawdown of weapons from existing stocks comes as the administration of President Joe Biden seeks to fortify Kiev’s negotiating position before the inauguration of newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump.

Two American officials, cited by Associated Press, revealed that the assistance announcement is anticipated during Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s final trip, during which he will meet with the Ukraine Defense Contact Group. This is an alliance of around 50 partner nations established by Austin following Russia’s February 2022 invasion to coordinate military support for Kiev.

The morning meeting will be the 25th and potentially the last gathering of the U.S.-led group, with member nations awaiting clarity on whether the initiative will continue under Trump’s administration.

Secretary Austin, during a press conference, emphasized, "Our focus will be on maintaining momentum, achieving results, and sending a clear message: the international community is firmly committed to supporting Ukraine."
