Chihuahua Braces for Second Winter Storm; Key Roads Closed Due to Snow and Freezing Temperatures
Chihuahua, Chih. – The State Civil Protection Coordination (CEPC) has announced the closure of the Janos-Agua Prieta and Janos-Ascención highways due to low temperatures and snowfall in the northwest region of the state. This closure is a result of the second winter storm of the season, which is expected to bring cold and icy conditions to much of the territory in the coming hours.
The Janos-Agua Prieta highway is completely closed, while the Janos-Ascención highway has been partially closed. Agents of the National Guard, along with state and municipal authorities, are maintaining constant vigilance on these roads to guide drivers and attend to any emergencies that may arise.
As of now, snowfall has been reported in Janos, Ascención, Buenaventura, and Nuevo Casas Grandes, as well as the Puerto San Luis stretch, located on the borders of Sonora and Chihuahua.
The CEPC has stated that these conditions are caused by the passage of the second winter storm of the season, which, according to the National Meteorological Service, will maintain a cold to freezing environment and a high probability of snowfall in much of the territory.
In addition, heavy rains are expected, which could be accompanied by sleet and snow, mainly in the municipalities of Ahumada, Casas Grandes, and Madera. Strong winds with speeds exceeding 65 and 75 km/h are also anticipated, along with possible dust storms in various parts of the state.
Drivers are urged to exercise caution while traveling during this period and to follow the guidelines provided by local authorities. The CEPC will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
