Ukraine Captures First Known North Korean Soldier in maiden Incident
In an unprecedented turn of events, Ukraine has captured its first-ever North Korean soldier. The news was first hinted at on Thursday but was officially confirmed by South Korea’s intelligence agency on Friday.
"Through real-time information sharing with the intelligence service of an allied nation, we have confirmed that an injured North Korean soldier has been captured, and we plan to thoroughly investigate the situation moving forward," the South Korean intelligence agency stated.
Thursday saw various Ukrainian "Telegram" channels and broad-scale communication tools circulating reports that Ukraine’s special operations forces had captured the first North Korean soldier in battle near the Kursk region.
Pictures of the soldier, who was injured prior to capture, have surfaced.
In a separate development, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this week that the number of deceased and injured North Korean soldiers in the Kursk region had surpassed 3,000.
Meanwhile, South Korean intelligence estimates place the death toll around 100-200, with approximately 1,000 injured.
