New Year’s Day Brings Mild Weather to Ukraine; Slight Changes Expected on January 2
Ukrainians rang in the new year with generally mild weather conditions, as января 1 kicked off without any significant disruptions. While a bit of morning mist couldn’t mar the festivities in the southern regions, the day remained largely free of noticeable precipitation.
Wind blew in from the west and southwest, clocking in at speeds between 7 and 12 m/s, with stronger gusts of up to 15 to 20 m/s reported in western territories. In the Ukrainian Carpathians, where the peaks soar high above, winds reached an impressive 25 to 30 m/s. Overnight, temperatures varied from a cosy 3°C above zero to a crisp 3°C below, while daytime highs ranged from 6°C to 12°C across the Carpathian regions and southern areas of the country. The rest of Ukraine experienced a comfortable range of 4°C to 9°C.
January 2 Predicts Similar Temperatures, Light Rain in the West
As we continue into the new year on January 2, Ukrainians can expect much of the same weather as New Year’s Day. However, meteorologists predict a slight shift, with the potential for some light rain in the country’s westernmost regions. Further east, the Carpathian Mountains may experience rain mixed with snow.
Overnight temperatures will once again hover around the freezing point, fluctuating between 3°C above and 3°C below zero. Daytime highs will remain similar to January 1, with 6°C to 12°C expected in the Carpathian region and southern areas, and 4°C to 9°C for the rest of the country.
