Ukraine Braces for Weekend Chill, Mild Winter Ahead
Ukrainians are in for a taste of winter this weekend, with a cold snap expected to blanket the country. However, weather experts assure that severe frost is not on the horizon. According to renowned Ukrainian meteorologist, Nataliya Didenko, a middle European winter is predicted for next week, marking the beginning of the real winter season.
The chill will kick off this weekend, with temperatures expected to dip to 0°C to -4°C at night and around -1°C to +3°C during the day. While 11 January will see warmer temperatures linger in some southern and eastern regions, the cold front will reach these areas by Sunday.
Light rain and wet snow showers are forecast for the north and center of Ukraine tonight and tomorrow morning. Overnight and through the day on 11 January, precipitation is most likely in the eastern regions and parts of the west.
In the capital, Kyiv, the week will conclude with a noticeable drop in temperature. The city is in line to experience "Charly" cyclones, bringing lower pressure systems and cooler air from the Atlantic Ocean.
On 11 and 12 January, Kyiv’s overnight lows will range between -1°C and -4°C, while daytime highs will max out around 0°C to +2°C. Expect patches of wet snow tonight, with more of the same possible on Sunday.
