Mystery of the Yellow Containers: A Norwegian Woman’s Morning Surprise
In the quiet town of Vrangsund, outside Larvik, a local resident, Lucie Fæste, woke up to an unusual sight on Thursday morning. Her property, along with those of her neighbors, had been invaded by a multitude of yellow containers overnight. The containers, numbering in the dozens, were scattered along the water’s edge.
"I thought to myself, ‘What on earth is this?’" Fæste recalls, still bewildered by the unexpected intrusion. The 70-year-old woman is unsure of how to remove all the containers, stating she would need her son’s help. For now, they remain where they are.
Fæste suspects the containers are a result of littering, speculating that they might have blown in from a nearby farm. "It’s something serious," she says, adding, "It must have come from one farm or another."
The containers, marked with the label ‘GrasAAT Lacto’, are used in agriculture as ensiling agents to preserve grass for animal feed. The syrebased product inhibits fermentation in the grass, enhancing its quality as fodder.
The containers are spread across Fæste’s property in Larvik municipality and her neighbor’s land in Porsgrunn. Fæste is unsure of the exact number but estimates there to be around 20-30 of the same type.
"I can’t reach all of them, I’m an old woman, and I’ll probably need my son to help me," Fæste says. She also laments the environmental impact, "It’s a lot of littering. It must have come from one or another farm."
A Stormy Night’s Culprit?
The recent stormy weather might be the culprit behind this unusual occurrence. Fæste believes the containers were carried in by the wind and sea. Some of the containers show signs of being in the water for a while, with visible barnacles, yet they managed to stay together on their journey to shore.
Fæste has seen similar incidents before, but on a much smaller scale. "There’s always something here after it’s been windy," she says. "But this is quite extreme, with so many items."
Now, Fæste hopes to get to the bottom of the mystery and find out where the containers came from. "It could have been a farmer who had stored them," she muses. "But they haven’t been stored properly, that’s for sure."
