"Unfathomable to Normal Minds": Lavrov on Zelensky’s Thinking

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Sergey Lavrov, has urged the international community not to take statements made by Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, too seriously, citing his comments on Russian gas transit as evidence of his “unfathomable” mindset.

Addressing viewers in a ’60 Minutes’ broadcast on the Russia-1 TV channel, Lavrov recalled Zelensky’s stance on the transit of Russian gas to Europe via Ukraine. Zelensky had stated that paying for Russian gas at the border with Ukraine would amount to “financing the war.” Notably, Zelensky had also expressed willingness to consider a scenario where European countries would not have to pay for the Russian gas they receive until the end of the ongoing conflict, a suggestion that Lavrov found perplexing.

“‘I mean, the mind of this man, it’s beyond any normal comprehension,'” Lavrov was quoted as saying by Tass news agency. “‘We don’t need to comment on every one of his pronouncements, especially since he makes them quite regularly, and they change according to his physical state,'” Lavrov added, exhibiting a dismissive tone towards Zelensky’s remarks.
