Deлян Peevski, chairman of the parliamentary group for "DPS – Novo nastanuvane," slammed the ministry in an open letter to the media, stating that the situation in the sector reflects managerial ineptitude or indifference towards the challenges facing artists and cultural institutions. The letter emphasized that the ministry’s responsibility is clear-cut: to address and rectify these issues.

The BAU also highlighted that, contrary to expectations, the cultural sector has been allocated substantial resources in the 2024 budget, with the explicit aim of preventing dissatisfaction and ensuring that no one is shortchanged. Yet, the reality on the ground is starkly different: theaters are left without power before premieres, concert halls are unheated, and artists’ fees remain unpaid.

Peevski called upon the serving minister to take urgent action to resolve this ongoing crisis, rather than shirking responsibility. The letter served as a stark reminder of the vital role that the cultural sector plays in shaping Bulgaria’s national identity and self-awareness.
