In the ever-evolving saga surrounding the corruption case involving Harun Masiku, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has yet to apprehend Secretary-General of the PDIP Hasto Kristiyanto, despite his status as a suspect.
Jakarta – The KPK’s delay in apprehending Hasto Kristiyanto has raised eyebrows, particularly as Harun Masiku, the main figure in the case, remains at large. Zaenur Rohman, a researcher from the Pusat Studi Anti Korupsi (Pukat) at the University of Gadjah Mada, emerged to shed light on the matter.
"Whether Hasto is arrested or not depends on the investigation team’s assessment," Zaenur said in a concise message to Detikcom. The decision lies in the KPK’s hands, and officers may choose to arrest a suspect if they fearflight, repeat offenses, or obstruction of evidence."
The landscape of the case shifted recently with Harun Masiku fleeing, putting a spotlight on Hasto Kristiyanto’s potential involvement. As the main suspect’s escape underscores the urgency of the situation, pundits like Zaenur urge prioritizing the investigation’s conclusion.
"Swift conclusion of the investigation allows for prompt prosecution and judicial clarity," Zaenur implored, adding that staying rigorous and unbiased throughout the process would alleviate lingering speculations."
Previously, KPK had named Hasto Kristiyanto as a suspect. The high-ranking PDIP official stands accused of bribery in a case involving Harun Masiku’s political ambitions. KPK Chair Setyo Budiyanto revealed that Hasto allegedly conspired to replace Riezky Aprilia with Harun Masiku in a parliamentary seat switch.
As Harun Masiku evades authorities, the KPK continues to weigh its next move, hoping to swiftly disintegrate this web of corruption.
