Title: Expert Warns: Vaccination Crucial as Respiratory Virus Season Kicks Off

Mexico City — Dr. Jorge Baruch Díaz, head of the Traveler’s Clinic at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and expert in epidemiology and global health policies, has emphasized the pivotal role of vaccinations against respiratory viruses as the seasonal peak approaches.

In an interview with Salvador García Soto on "Al Aire" for El Heraldo Radio, Dr. Baruch Díaz stressed, "Vaccination significantly reduces the risk." He advised timely vaccination, noting that the influenza vaccine, for instance, takes two weeks to reach its maximum protective level.

With winter upon us, health experts anticipate a surge in respiratory virus cases, with the peak of hospitalizations and deaths expected in January and February. Dr. Baruch Díaz underscored the importance of vaccination, highlighting that the current COVID-19 vaccine, Comirnaty by Pfizer, is recommended for individuals aged six months and older, particularly those at high risk.

He advised, "If you experience any respiratory symptoms, it’s crucial to consult a physician. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment can prevent complications." Dr. Baruch Díaz emphasized the role of antivirals and discouraged self-medication.

Focusing on strengthening immunity during the winter months, Dr. Baruch Díaz advised, "A balanced diet and regular exercise are key to boosting your immune system. Additionally, vaccines play a significant role in positively stimulating our immune response."

When asked about handling suspected respiratory illnesses in children, Dr. Baruch Díaz advised, "Isolate immediately and consult a doctor. Avoid gatherings to prevent spreading the infection to others."
