Vandalize a Gym Door to Steal Fire Extinguishers in Failed Arson Attempt

Vandalism in Fiumicello Villa Vicentina: Thousands in damages, youth suspected

Jan 5th, 2023

In a rash act of vandalism, unidentified individuals have caused significant damage to the sports facility in Fiumicello Villa Vicentina, leaving local authorities with a hefty repair bill. The incident occurred between December 30th and January 1st, with the exact sequence of events still under investigation.

According to the town’s Mayor, Alessandro Dijust, who filed a complaint with the Carabinieri, the culprits broke into the facility, smashed several doors and surveillance cameras, and used fire extinguishers from the gym to douse flames that engulfed an outdoor bench. While the mayor declines to share specific details, he confirms that footage from the remaining cameras captured the entire incident.

" Preliminary investigations suggest that we’re dealing with a group of local youth, not just one or two individuals," says Dijust, expressing his disappointment. The damage is extensive: doors at the gym and bocce court were broken, all surveillance cameras were destroyed, and a bench outside the facility was set ablaze.

Dijust hopes that the perpetrators are swiftly identified and held accountable. "This goes beyond mere mischief or bad behavior. We’re talking about serious property damage, and I expect them to face the consequences."

Local authorities are working diligently to assess the extent of the damage and estimate repair costs. As the investigation progresses, more details may emerge, keeping the community on edge as they await justice.
