According to Nataliya Romanyuk, the lawyer representing Farion’s daughter, the upcoming trial in Lviv is set to determine who is responsible for the linguist’s death. While Romanyuk emphasized that the sufficiency of evidence is the court’s prerogative, she believes there is ample evidence to support the prosecution’s case. The investigation, she noted, was thorough and made significant use of the "Safe City" video surveillance system.
In response to those questioning Zinchenko’s involvement, Romanyuk pointed to the "Dunning-Kruger effect," a cognitive bias where unskilled individuals often fail to recognize the full extent of their incompetence. She suggested that those doubting the evidence may be falling prey to this effect.
Investigators found a message on Zinchenko’s device written in Russian: "I am the sanitizer of this society." Before his arrest, Zinchenko had been searching for information about roads and obtaining a Romanian passport, suggesting a possible readiness to leave the country. Romanyuk posited that Zinchenko’s patriotism may have been a factor in Farion’s murder, given that Farion was a vocal critic of Russian influence.
Despite the complexity of the case, Romanyuk expressed confidence in the investigation’s quality and the potential for a successful prosecution. She has previously secured four acquittals in murder cases and now aims for a lifetime sentence for Zinchenko if he is found guilty.
