WAC Struggles Continue: 3-1 Loss to LASK & Fight for Bundesliga Survival

The RZ Pellets WAC concluded the 2025/26 Bundesliga regular season in tenth place following a 1-3 defeat against third-placed LASK. The team is still awaiting their first away point under coach Ismail Atalan, having suffered six consecutive away losses and only securing one win in nine games. The team has only collected two points from their first five spring matches. The WAC now faces a challenging qualification group stage, with the threat of repeating last year’s relegation experience for a Carinthian club looming.

WAC captain Dominik Baumgartner scored his first Bundesliga goal of the season, equalizing at 1-1 after a corner kick. The team now faces a crucial match against GAK 1902 in the qualification group, with GAK only three points behind in the standings. This upcoming game is a key indicator for the WAC, who haven’t won an away game since October 26th. However, the team previously won both away games in Graz-Liebenau in the fall (3-1 against SK Sturm and GAK).

„Da muss man mehr Mentalität reinbringen”

Ismail Atalan (Cheftrainer RZ Pellets WAC):

„It was noticeable that it was the last game of the regular season. Both teams had their moments, but it wasn’t fluid. It was a highly varied game, especially from our side. Until the 2-1, the game went back and forth, and then LASK benefited from that. But I would have wished for more resistance.

there were players on the pitch who have played several Bundesliga games, and they need to bring more mentality and lead the younger players. That was too little today, especially from the leaders.”

Erik Kojzek, who recently impressed with a goal and assist in a 2-2 draw against SK Puntigamer Sturm Graz, failed to make an impact in this match, while George Bello helped LASK finish the regular season as the most successful home team (22 points).

„Ich finde, dass wir zum Teil gar nicht schlecht im Spiel waren”

René Renner (1:0-Hinspiel-Siegtorschütze RZ Pellets WAC):

„I feel we weren’t bad at all in parts of the game. We didn’t take our chances, and we conceded goals too easily. The 3-1 then happens at the end when we throw everything forward.”

„Die Formkurve zeigt sicher nicht nach oben”

Nicolas Wimmer (Innenverteidiger RZ Pellets WAC) über die Form seiner Mannschaft:

„It wasn’t enough today. We absolutely wanted to get points. Now we have to focus on the qualification group and increase the gap downwards, and then we can set other goals.

The form curve is definitely not pointing upwards. We are playing below our expectations and need to make sure we pick up points in the lower play-off and get away from the bottom as quickly as possible.”
