Local Residents Decry Parking Chaos outside Palestra Ballarini-Michelini
Residents of the Montarice neighborhood in Porto Recanati have been grappling with parking woes for years, particularly around the Palestra Ballarini-Michelini. The issue, according to the Montarice residential committee led by President Pasquale La Torre, stems from athletes using the sports facility and leaving their cars haphazardly, blocking public parking spaces and causing traffic congestion.
The palestra’s parking lot, which has not been asphalted despite promises from the municipal councillors, has added to the residents’ discontent. The situation has reached a boiling point, prompting the committee to pen letters to the mayor, Andrea Michelini, the local police command, and the Macerata prefecture.
Athletes’ disregard for parking regulations is exacerbating the problem. They speed along the road leading to the palestra and park in no-parking zones, hindering two-way traffic. To make matters worse, a dedicated internal parking area for athletes and their accompaniments near the palestra’s entrance remains unused.
The Montarice committee has proposed several solutions to alleviate this chronic issue. These include relocating the car entry and exit points to the state highway 16 and transforming the currently restricted internal parking area into a public parking lot with surveillance cameras. Another suggestion is to allocate one exclusive parking spot per residential family.
Despite numerous complaints and proposals submitted to the municipality over the past three years, no action has been taken. A €80,000 fund earmarked for asphalt works in the athletes’ parking area remains unused. The committee questions the administration’s inaction and feels ignored by the municipality’s indifference.
In a bid to resolve this parking fiasco, local residents urge the authorities to address their grievances promptly and decisively.
