Braving the Arctic: Swedish Rail Operators Caution of Impending Travel Chaos
Concerns have surfaced regarding potential travel disruptions as Sweden braces for plummeting temperatures. According to SJ’s press spokesperson, Leila Fogelholm, conditions from Narvik and southward are expected to be highly challenging. Temperatures in northern Sweden are forecasted to drop below -30°C in the coming days, leaving rail operators apprehensive about the potential impact on services.
"The situation is critical," warns Fogelholm, pointing out that the lack of available Engineers in the vicinity could exacerbate any disruptions, potentially making evacuation efforts challenging. In light of these predictions, SJ has taken the preemptive measure to suspend all train services along the stretch between Umeå and Boden, as well as between Luleå and Kiruna, for the next three days starting from Saturday.
