Snow Shovel Sales Surge: ‘Sold for Half a Million in Three Days’
As snow sweeps across the region, residents are stocking up on essentials, pushing snow shovel sales to unprecedented heights. By Tuesday evening, local retailers had sold snow shovels worth half a million kroner, a figure that’s more than double last year’s total and achieved in just three days.
Snowfall, beginning Monday and expected to continue throughout the week, has triggered a rush on snow-clearing equipment. From early morning until late evening, stores have witnessed long queues at their home and gardening departments, as homeowners prepare for the winter’s first major storm.
"We’ve never seen anything like this," says Janne Olsen, manager of Gard & Hage in Stavanger. "Our snow shovels have been flying off the shelves. We’ve had to call in extra staff just to keep up with demand."
With snowfall forecasts predicting up to 40 centimeters in some areas, many appreciate the value of a good snow shovel. "It’s not just about clearing your driveway," adds Olsen. "A reliable snow shovel can make all the difference when it comes to accessing your house, your car, and even getting the kids to school."
While some retailers have had to ration their supplies, others have been caught off guard by the sudden surge in demand. "We’ve sold out of all our snow shovels," laments Ingrid Bakke, manager of Jernia in Kristiansand. "We’re expecting a new shipment tomorrow, but it’s hard to keep up when everyone seems to want one at the same time."
