Xbox Brings Completionist Trophies to Insiders

Xbox Mythic Achievements have arrived for Xbox Insiders on consoles and Windows PC, bringing PlayStation-style completionist tracking to Microsoft’s ecosystem after eighteen years. The update retroactively applies to completed games from the Xbox 360 era onward, rewarding players who earn every base achievement.

Microsoft Adds Completionist Trophies to Xbox

After nearly eighteen years of community requests, Microsoft has officially introduced Mythic Achievements via an Xbox Wire blog post, describing it as one of the community’s most requested features. Sony’s Platinum Trophy was developed as a response to the Xbox 360’s achievements, catching Sony cold and leading to the introduction of its own system on the PS3 with Super Stardust HD. The feature functions much like Sony’s PlayStation Platinum trophies, serving as a special designation awarded to players who successfully obtain every standard achievement in a game. Following an appearance in an Xbox PC app leak complete with a distinct unlock sound, the functionality entered testing shortly after Xbox CEO Asha Sharma stated that a platinum trophy alternative would arrive on Xbox later in the year.

That historical timing created a nearly eighteen-year feature gap between the two console ecosystems. While the Xbox achievements system debuted alongside the Xbox 360 on November 22, 2005, Sony introduced its own trophy system via PS3 firmware 2.40 on July 2, 2008, almost three years later.

Mythic Achievements Reward Completion of Base Game Content

Mythic Achievements apply retroactively to scan titles finished years ago on older systems for eligibility. Dedicated achievement hunters now have a more prominent method to display historical victories and find fresh encouragement to return to unfinished software.

Qualifying rules are strictly tied to base game content.

You earn a Mythic Achievement when you complete all original achievements for a game. Achievements added later through DLC or updates aren’t required, and once you’ve earned Mythic status, it’s yours to keep.

Once a game receives Mythic status, players retain it even if additional achievements are introduced later through post-launch updates or paid downloadable content. Because the architecture reviews past accomplishments, players logging into the Insider build may discover that older titles—including Xbox 360 classics—have already achieved Mythic status.

Insiders Track Progress Across the Interface

To help users monitor their completionist status, Microsoft has updated user profiles with a dedicated Gaming tab. This centralized hub displays overall achievement history, tracks progress toward Gamerscore milestone badges, and lists previously completed games.

Mythic entries feature a fancy heroic frame inside profile histories, making it easy to spot mastered titles. Visual indicators distinguish these high-level completions from standard achievements.

For incomplete titles, a new progress bar sits at the top of each game’s achievement list, offering an option to focus on original achievements still needed. Post-launch additions are clearly tagged as add-on content, separating DLC requirements from the base tasks needed to secure a Mythic status. Similar progress information appears elsewhere across the platform, including the Guide and individual Achievement details, making it easy to pick up progress from anywhere.

Leadership Shifts Shape the Xbox Division

The introduction of Mythic Achievements follows a turbulent period for Microsoft’s gaming division. A tumultuous period began with the departure of veteran chief Phil Spencer, subsequent widespread job cuts, and structural overhauls as Asha Sharma stepped in as the new head to evaluate and rationalize the division she inherited. Additional restructuring occurred recently, featuring further layoffs, studio consolidation, and the closure of Hellblade developer Ninja Theory.
