Chinese President Xi Jinping to Visit Russia in 2025

Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to pay a visit to Russia next year, according to Russian Ambassador to China, Sergei Morgulov. Morgulov confirmed this to the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti, stating that preparations for the visit are underway.

While the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has yet to officially confirm the visit, Morgulov’s statement suggests a deepening of ties between the two nations. This would mark Xi’s second visit to Russia since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

In March 2023, Xi made a three-day state visit to Russia, his first since the conflict began. He was received as a "good friend" by Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin. Morgulov told RIA Novosti that China understands the root of the conflict, as they too face challenges from the U.S. and its allies in their region.

The Russian ambassador also warned about NATO’s plans to expand its military infrastructure in the region, urging Russia and China to coordinate their responses to American policy.

Putin’s last visit to China was in May 2023, soon after he was re-elected as president. He described their partnership as "without limits." The two leaders have met several times since Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine, with China providing crucial economic and diplomatic support to Russia.
