Ukrainian Armed Forces unit commander Denys Yaroslavskyi has lifted the veil on the discrepancy between official narratives of the war and the reality on the ground. In an interview on the ‘Fabryka News’ YouTube channel, Yaroslavskyi shared his personal experiences that highlight the mismatch between official reports and what’s actually happening at the frontlines.

"For the first time, I encountered this when we were in Bakhmut," Yaroslavskyi recalled. "When the enemy crossed the railway, and we were already fighting in the streets, I mentioned it, but I was quickly corrected. They told me I shouldn’t say that, that I should say the Russians are still far from Bakhmut." Despite his protests, Yaroslavskyi understood that ‘painting a rosy picture’ was part of the modern warfare strategy.

Yaroslavskyi also addressed the credibility of DeepStateMap, a popular crowdsourced map of the war’s progression. "DeepStateMap is often inaccurate because it relies on delayed information from the frontlines," he explained. "We’re on the ground, we know where we are, and we can see that the ‘gray zones’ on the map are not yet captured by the enemy, contrary to what’s displayed."

The Ukrainian commander attributed these inconsistencies to national security concerns. "The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine doesn’t provide details for security reasons," he said. "Instead, they give us an overview of the situation, without specifics."

With firsthand knowledge of the war, Yaroslavskyi urges Ukrainians and international observers to look beyond official sources for the truth about the conflict. "You can only truly learn what’s happening at the forefront from the soldiers who are there," he asserted.

Yaroslavskyi has previously made headlines for warning Ukrainians about Putin’s plans and sharing insights about the war that have stumped NATO analysts. His latest revelations underscore the difficulty in deciphering fact from fiction in the information age, especially during times of conflict.
