Military Procurement Scandal
In January 2024, Ukraine’s Defense Minister Rustem Umerov revealed an audit that uncovered corruption worth 10 billion hryvnia (approximately USD262 million) in military procurement within the first four months of his tenure. The case includes the dismissal of two senior officials for inflating contracts for food supplies to troops, including eggs. -
The Jacket Scandal
In August 2023, public outrage ensued over exorbitant prices for an order of 233,000 jackets worth USD20 million from Turkish company Vector Avia. The jackets were deemed inadequate for the upcoming winter. While former Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov was not directly involved, his resignation letter acknowledged the scandal’s negative impact. - Artillery Ammunition Embezzlement
In December 2023, a defense ministry official was arrested for allegedly embezzling nearly USD40 million in funds meant for the purchase of critically needed artillery ammunition for the Ukrainian military.
