Nestled near the Valley apartment complex and AFC football club, Amsterdam’s newest residential neighborhood, Ravel, is gearing up to claim a unique title: perhaps the greenest district of the South Axis (Zuidas). The municipality has grand visions for this vegetated paradise, with plans to create a harmonious blend of exotic and native flora and fauna, artfully scattered across the neighborhood.
"This will be a park-like oasis," reveals the chief architect, "We’re choosing a mix of exotic and local plants and trees, essentially allowing the greenery to organically spread throughout the entire neighborhood."
In stark contrast to other Zuidas districts like Gershwin, which was designed with ample space for vehicular traffic, Ravel will prioritize resident comfort and sustainability. "Gershwin is quite a stone-heavy area," the architect explains, "Built in an era when large spaces were allocated for cars. However, congestion proved to be an issue, and that valuable space couldn’t be repurposed. We’re doing things differently in Ravel."
With its commitment to green spaces and eco-friendly design, Ravel is set to transform the urban landscape, offering Zuidas residents a unique and inviting living environment that harmoniously balances the city’s bustling energy with the soothing embrace of nature.
