Breaking: Police Seize Illegal Fireworks, Weapons, and Drugs in Large-Scale North Drenthe Raid
In a sweeping operation, law enforcement in North Drenthe unearthed a cache of illicit fireworks, firearms, and narcotics, following an initial discovery at an Assen high school. The investigation, triggered by a student found in possession of a powerful "Cobra 6" firework, led police to unravel a web of illicit activities.
A total of six suspects are now under investigation. The same Cobra 6 firework was later found at a minor’s residence in Vries, where police also seized 35 nitrates. The teenager has since been taken into custody.
In a separate raid at the residence of a 24-year-old Vries inhabitant, police recovered two handguns, nine kilograms of banned fireworks, and a "knuckleduster," a type of striking weapon. Additionally, a 24-year-old man from the same town was found to be in possession of two handguns and subsequently arrested.
The police net widened to include two more suspects, both in their mid-twenties, who were found with significant amounts of illegal fireworks. A 22-year-old from De Groeve was discovered with ten kilograms of banned fireworks, while an Assen resident of the same age had seventeen kilograms. Moreover, the police confiscated four bags of marijuana tops and €5,000 in cash during their raids.
The discovery of such a substantial quantity of illicit substances and weapons highlights the community’s concern about public safety. Local law enforcement has vowed to continue its efforts to keep North Drenthe safe and secure.
