In a serious incident at Heavenly Mountain Resort, five individuals were rushed to the hospital on Monday morning following an accident involving a chairlift. ABC News reported the incident, which occurred at the resort situated on the border between California and Nevada in the Lake Tahoe area.
Emergency services, including two fire trucks and three ambulances, were dispatched around 10 AM local time. According to the report, the chairlift malfunction caused the ski chair to slide back and collide with the chair behind it, leading to several skiers being thrown off and suffering injuries.
Among the injured were a man in his 60s and a man in his 70s. The resort has confirmed the incident and is currently investigating the cause. High winds, with gusts reaching up to 125 km/h the previous day, might have contributed to the accident.
The safety of guests is the top priority for the resort, according to a spokesperson. More details about the incident are expected as the investigation continues.
